I don't know if it is Musicman or not, but the fact that I don't have to take my trem arm off to close my case was always the coolest thing to me. After years of unscrewing it, putting it away, closing case... then doing the reverse later.

+1 - I forgot about that - I love it :)

Ok...I'll jump in, but will most likely be redundantly redundant. I don't really know how many of these are EB innovations, but they are definitely things I love about my Pet!

1. Truss rod adjustment. Best period.
2. Perfectly shaped, smooth, silky neck.
3. Petrucci trem. Stays in tune beautifully.
4. Best designed dual output piezo config.
5. Tight, locking tuners. I used to be a fan of Floyd trems w/ locking nuts. Now I hate them.
6. Trem arm that snaps in and out rather than screws. Holy crap, how great is that!
7. A case that lets you leave the trem arm on.
8. HARD, glossy finish.
9. Really shiny frets! :D

Oh yes! I forgot that one!

10. Best customer service in the industry. The folks you talk to here are the ones that do the work (or even the one that owns the company!)

1) The overall size of the guitar. Perfectly balanced & compact. I'm short, so it seems to fit me just right. I can't believe how many non-guitarists or non-musicians in general noticed the smaller size of the instrument and specifically the headstock.

2) Oil & wax neck, excellent fretwork, and the best truss rod.

3) The Petrucci Tremolo is the best I've ever played. The bridge feels like a hardtail and stays in tune very well. I had a Jem, but was afraid to use the tremolo: start in Cleveland and end up in Jersey.

4) Body finish, color options, and limited editions that the "average Joe" can afford. I got a loaded out JP7 LE Buttercream for less money than a stock Jem, Les Paul Standard, or custom Strat.

5) Excellent electronics and hardware. I love the piezo option. Awesome hardshell case (super-light weight and rugged).

6) Excellent customer service.

I'm going to take a different approach and say the EVH model. The reason I choose that is that in 1991-2, I was still a pointy strat guy and it took the EVH model to bring me out of the 80s - it was a beautiful, functional guitar which has one of the best necks ever produced - I owe EBMM and EVH for changing the way I look at the guitar :)

Agreed...I'm the kind of person that looks for different and unique, and that's exactly what the EVH was bck in the day. Never mind the fact that EVH played/endorsed it, and that he (and my grandfather as well, rest in peace) was the reason that I picked up a guitar to begin with...that neck was so nice in my hand, and to die for.

Signed, sealed, delivered...it was mine. :)

Cool......lots of great replies...

So what got me thinking about the idea of innovation in the first place was that lots of guitar manufacturers seem to produce what would appear to be slight variations of guitars that were first produced in the 50's (modifications of the strat, tele. les paul models). Now I realize that not all guitar manufacturers are like that, but it would seem that the concept of innovation in the first place is not something that is easily embraced by the guitar world (i.e. lots of guitar players would consider themselves "traditionalists" and only want to play what Jimi or SRV or someone that they easily identified with played....which is fine for lots of people... to each his own really).

All that to say that it lools like EBMM is not afraid to innovate....to push the envelope with new things, that they consider improvements on guitar design....a lot of those things have been listed in this thread. Another example of this is the textured finish on my SUB 1.....certainly not a traditional look, but something that I've grown to really like (no finger prints..so my guitar basically looks brand new every time I take it out of the case.....for someone who isn't so meticulous about polishing his guitar, that's innovative).

I really dig the major scoop in the body of the Petrucci. It gets your picking hand right in there where it has always wanted to be.

I also really like the tremolo on the Petrucci. It holds tune amazingly well, and you can rest your hand on it comfortbaly without getting your flesh torn!

The unfinished, oiled & waxed neck also kicks butt..

I could go on, and on.. :)
Ditto - all of the above:)

...I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the Silent Circuit yet.

It's always nice to have a 60 cycle hum cancelled out when your guitar is plugged in. :)

Oh and the tuners with the locking knobs:D

That's a great feature, but I don't know if it's necessarily EBMM. I first saw them on my 1989 Strat Plus with the Sperzel locking tuners.

The thing I love most about my guitar (apart from sound and feel) is the quality. A really well put-together guitar. Best I've ever owned.

The neck and the Petrucci trem definitely. As a huge fan of floating trems (Ibanez Edge/Floyds etc), EBMM got it spot on with the JP trem!
