dude its not like fender or gibson, the bigger manufacturers have so many options also on their american instruments, and if I could figure out how to post a pic I can show you 2 axis tops that were standard that are as nice as anything PRS puts out and way nicer than the Pauls coming off the line nowadays, the same reason why you can talk to the owner of a company online is the same reason why you cant get hundreds of options of made in mexico and japan and us hardware assembled in mexico etc....Its basically a smallish company that makes a handful of models that are are great guitars, if you really need a 24 fret silo with 3 single coils buy a damn pickguard and slap single coils on there, otherwise grab a silo special or an AL -

Dante,

You sound like the type of guy that would say, "I can play faster than that guy... He sucks!" "My guitar feels better to me than yours does. Yours blows".

Hey, to each his own man.

Let me tell ya though, Big Poppa is right. Why would anyone with such experience and passion pull the plug on a model if it wasn't cost effective to make at the moment?

Just what are you looking for in a top? Sounds like you wanna be able to go down to the factory and hand pick your top. Guess that means the price of your Y2D just tripled! And you thought money was a problem before? HA!!

I'm not feelin' yer supply and deman top argument either. Top's vary. And of course, the rating system may be slightly flawed too. But top's like these have been around for a long time, and is it just me, but are they almost looking BETTER AND BETTER? Especially since they dying process has gotten better.

If yer looking for a spefic type of top, then I almost bet for the right price, you could get EXACTLY what you wanted out of EBMM if you went thru the right people. But I don't know that for a fact.

The nice thing is, yer dealing with one of the best guitar co's going, that care about their customers. Top notch company ran by one of the most respected and best family's in the business, but with a small time feel allowing their customers to kinda feel part of it all themselves. That's the way it should be!

I'm just yankin' yer chain man. It's all in good fun, honest.

Who cares if an SSS Silo isn't offered... have a pick guard made and buy some Lindy Fralins and slap em in. On the SS you have an instant vintage Strat with a better neck, locking tuners, and maybe even piezo... not to mention better QC.

As for the tops... I can totally understand worrying about not getting the type of top that you dream of, but the fact is... the lots that have been coming out of the MM factory over the last few years have been better than ever. How much would it add to be able to ask for a Quilt on a BFR when ordering instead of taking a chance that you'll get a flame? I don't know. However, if I'm buying a near 3 thousand dollar guitar, chances are.. if I don't like the top I receive, I'm probably not going to have much trouble looking around and finding one I like better and selling one to buy the other. I wouldn't want a flame BFR. That's me. But, the value on these things is going to make it impossible to lose anything if you have to get another one....

As for the complaints on Axis and whatnot... I don't get it. One minute it seems you're complaining that the premium tops are marketing schemes and the next it seems you're complaining that they no longer offer the upcharged premium top. Which is it? If the rating system is a sham... then it's better they don't mess with it anyway right? If it isn't a sham, it seems they are just selecing better woods accross the board anyway and just saving back the freakin rediculous for the BFRs.

As for the export/import thing... every country is different... I don't see what EB can do about various goods and services taxes and whatnot.

Oddly enough... this whole thing reminds me of what Paul Reed Smith always goes through with that neck heel thing. lol He's either a genius for it or Satan incarnate. LOL Oh, and that wrap around stop bar bridge... he's a devil for that too....lol... and when he stopped offering the single coil model with the pickgaurd... same grumblings. Nearly 7 billion people in the world and only a handful of workers at a company like EB. Somebody, somewhere, on one side of the fence or the other is going to run out of options and/or courses of action.

The reason is it would take even longer to get your instrument. We've been down this road before try doing a search on it.

I wasn't asking the question to be answered... I was asking it to make a point... hense the big "BUT" that follows the "I don't know." In other words... who cares what the answer is... it's just the way it works. I think it's pretty obvious what I was getting at.

I try not to eat at mcdonalds since seeing supersize me......

That movie isn't very fair to McDonald's I must say. 1st No one eats that much from there... and 2nd... alcohol is as bad for the liver per gram consumed (or whatever measurement is more appropriate. LOL) and the average person consumes more alcohol than they do McDonald's in terms of an amount that would do to you what it does to that guy in that movie.

All things in moderation BP... LOL :) Except of course Music Man guitars.... and Mesa Boogie amplifiers... and effects pedals, and effects rack units, and recording stuff, and .... all that other music gear related stuff that we just can't get enough of. LOL
