Steve Gadd also plays in that movie, as does.....

..... Paul Simon. The title song is just an amazing piece of music. :)

i think people just think because it has one pickup ,that it can produce only one tone.the p bass ,to me is sort of that, however i think the stingray and sterling to be highly versatile because of that preamp being able to coax a lot tones.

Extraordinary find Mr M

I know a guy who thinks the Ray is a one trick pony - he doesn't like them because he can't get it to sound like Bernard Edwards. However he hasn't noticed it's his own playing style which causes this.

This week I witnessed this guy strap on a Fender and his bass proceeded to make a complete cock up of three songs (Sweet Georgia Brown; Fly Me to the Moon; Girl from Ipanema) - it then played a 12 bar with a very fast bass solo that wowed some of the guitards in the audience. So should I conclude that Fenders are a one trick pony that can play 12 bars only and not jazz standards - I don't think so!

I believe a lot of the 'one trick pony' jockeys are really just reflecting their own lack of technique and ability to use the in built versatility of an instrument - simply because it hasn't one volume control per pick up, two pick ups and one tone control appears to spook some players.

i wholeheartedly agree with you dr t :)

a good player is a good player no matter which instrument he straps on. he will make the bass sound the way he wants it to sound :)
