Usually the highschool crowds my band plays in front of are pretty good when it comes to identifying MM basses. Whenever i pull one out of the case I usually hear a whisper or 2 saying "ooh check out the stingray."
Sad thing is, is that I hear the same thing when someone whips out a OLP
I suppose it goes in stages....
Nice 30th - would have been fantastic!! He'd have a drink!
Nice 'Ray - lovely! Gained an offer of a beer!!
Is that an Ernie Ball? - Hey! How are ya!
Do you play bass? - No..... I fly rockets to the Moooooon!!!!!
Do you play guitar? - F##k off!!!!
did anyone ever get the whole "is that a pre-fender stingray?" followed by me saying "what?"
and then they go on to say how fender bought ernie ball a couple years ago, and the quality is horrible since they started outsourcing all the building. Then trying to argue when you calmly correct them.
I used to see this bassist (term used loosely) every week at this blues jam and every time I'd pull out a Stingray, which back then was EVERY TIME I PLAYED, he'd say, "I really like those G&Ls."
Gee, if only that guy knew what you unloaded from your magazines before loading up with target shells at the practice range, I'll bet he would have done more *ahem* research.
Someone mistook his fabulous 30th anniversary Stingray for some chunk of wood and wires made by a company who profits from the comparatively cheap labor of people in third world countries.
The lack of smiling header was actually tongue in cheek.. I was probably trying to get 'the groove'.
But that herbert did say that to me!! I mean, this thing just oozes quality FAR superior to any other production (and most custom) models and he automatically thinks of the 'only' brand he knows. Sheesh!!
