Keep it stock and sock away a little bit of money every month then in a year or two you can get what you want and still have the pinkburst. Part of the fun I have is socking away money saving up for my next musical purchase. I have 2 tots as well and am the sole income provider in the family (not making a whole hell of a lot either) and after a few years I finally have the dough to get 2 EBMM and an amp. I'll have a dry spell for at least a year before buying anything else.

Hey Dr.Bob, first of all congrats on Junior No.2 ! :)

As for the AL I'd agree with most others to leave it as it is. We already talked about the option of getting a decent SUB1 trem and converting that into SSS a while ago. I would rather stick with that idea because I guess it'll be much cheaper, also resulting in a great modded guitar, but without "ruining" your AL.

I hope you manage to get a decent SUB1 trem for mods - great guitar stock (I own two SUBs...), but not THAT much of a sacrilege as drilling out the soul of your lovely AL...

All the best

That is exactly what I have done over the last 2 years - it's amazing how it mounts up. I even used to do the odd DIY job for people and charge em a fraction.
I also sold bits and pieces on E bay - old VW Kharman Ghia clock, guitar effects, books - man it mounted up fast and it was fun doing it too!
My BCB was bought that way and I remember that every time I look at it.

When's your BCB due in Glockaxis?

oh and Dr Bob get saving - put away the gig money and get a second hand one.
JD (job done!)
Edit
oh and the wife found out about my new 06 LEAL tonight - she's still talking but can't understand why I want "so many guitars". Thank god she doesn't know the real price !!!

Let me clarify something. Moding is ok if what you want isnt available. The trem Al is available and perfect.

As ever BP, wise words,

but I just wanted to clarify one point.
I'm really bad at finding stuff in old threads but I'm sure that when Robelinda (whose opinion on AL's has to be listened to) first got his Pinkburst another forumite asked him how it compared to his other AL's .
And I'm fairly convinced that one of the differences that he stated was that the neck on the Pinkburst was a fair deal chunkier than those on his newer AL's.
And therein lies the the problem. You see I've got fingers like banana's and hands like shovels and I really really like the big chunky neck on my Pinkburst AL, and much as I do want the flexibility of the trem I really don't want to trade that neck in for a slinkier model...

No size zero facism here.

So BP, Is it true that the newer trem equipped AL's have a shallower neck ?
Or are they every bit as chunky as that beautifully carved bit of flame maple that currently resides on Pinky ?

Dr Bob - I got small hands and I don't find the AL chunky in the slightest.
Bear in mind that both my AL's (trem equipped) are relatively new (05 and 06).
My 05 feels smaller than my 06.

I took a template of my 05 and posted it on here.

I'll go look see and post it again.

Spud,

Thanks for that.

I don't have a vernier caliper, so I can't really offer a comparison of where my neck is at thickness wise.

It'd be interesting if Robelinda could chime in with an opinion on this one.

Alternatively Spud it does occur to me that next time I'm nailing it down the M4 to visit my sister in Betws I should maybe bring Albert with me and we could compare necks....

Also I think the 3 of them would V,V, photogenic lined up, Pinkburst, then Black Cherry Burst, then Black.:)

Incidentally worry not ALOC types (Am I a member by the way ?) Pinky is and will remain unmolested by a router.

I had a rare opportunity to fire up the amp today, and my God the sound of Pinky through the Rivera Clubster is a fearsome thing to behold ! I'm too scared that cutting holes in it would change that.

S'pose I'd best start saving........

Of course Dr. Bob - as are all Albert Lee owners :)

However, in the past you have offered her up for sale, dinged her neck in a somewhat careless incident and considered after market routing. Hence, your membership ranking has been somewhat sullied. :p

But hanging with SAA Spud may provided bonus points and accolades:D

The CIC :)

Whilst all of the above is true.
In my defence I'd like to point out that I did rescue Pinky from Macari's on Shaftesbury Avenue where she'd been langushing unloved for several months.

And whilst It's also true that I did find myself in a position where I was contemplating selling Pinky I have ultimately sold on my Silo Spec AND a hardtail ASS in order to keep the wolf from Pinky's door.

And yes I did ding her neck in a damn fool accident but to make it up to her I did take her over to Feline guitars and have them strip back, and re oil her neck whilst also doing a refret and fitting a new Earvana nut.

I know that it's a bit of a rollercoaster ride with me and Pinky, but it's definitely a big Love affair.

Incidentally a question for the ALOC.

Do Mr Horsepower owners qualify for the ALOC ?

So do you love pinkie's neck? Then keep it and swap with another tremmed AL. Problem solved. (Maybe pinkie can even get a compensated nut.)

... and as for are you a member of the ALOC?- well thats "a given".
and for sure Mr H.P. is an ALOC member - why do you qualify on that score too!!

Sounds like a good photo shoot opportunity too.

well, out of my 5 AL's most are pretty much the same neck, as you'd expect, the one that stands out as being a little thinner is the blue pearl AL, all the others are consistent. The pinkburst seems a little different to all the others, but not fatter, just older. I would try and find a new one somewhere to try out, i havent played any new AL's so i cant help you, all mine have been used. Cant wait for my LE AL, and then the BFR AL!

Not yet, but I figure now that BP's building Nigel Tufnel a new guitar he's not gonna want that tatty old red & yellow thing anymore. And like I've said I'm in the market for an AL with a trem so maybe there's a bargain to be had there eh ?:D
