Well the story goes something like this...

I was at my buddies house just noodling around on my bass and he starts telling me what a dumb idea it was going for the Bongo as my next bass. (A long arguement insued...) Before I discovered the wonderous Bongo I was gunning for a Rickenbacker like a mad man... that was until I found out that the waiting period for one is close to a year

Apparently my buddy told one of his other bass friends that I had made this decision and the other guys response was something along the lines of "wow what a moron"

Anyway I would just like to know what some of you guys would say if someone told you that the Bongo was a bad move just incase I get into another situation like this

I like the sound and the look, but I've sold all the 4003s I've owned and my gigging bass (which I'll be using tonight) is my Bongo HS

rics are nice. Had one for a while. If he, you or they like rics then get one and play it all he, you or they want(s). I sold mine and got a BoNgO. I'm happy too.

Bongo > Most other basses.

The only to exceed the Bongo is the wonderful StingRay 5.

Take a handful of people and ask for their opinion on just about anything where there is choice ... cars, music, bass guitars, beer brand etc. ... and what will be the likely result? Ask 10 people coming out of any movie theatre and ask them if they liked the movie or not ... will you get the same answers? You have to make your own decisions and not worry about what someone else says ... and that goes for just about everything in life.

Play what you like. Some people claim to be musical elitists but are infact just plain ignorant. Have they played one? Have the played every bass at a similar price range and come up with that conclusion? Or are they going on the fact that the design is unconventional?

I choose to play Bongos and Sterlings and if anybody don't like it, they can kiss my white, fat, cellulose infested, stinky, old a$$!!!

Those two basses are backwards for me. I love the classic look of the Rick but i can't stand the way they feel, and the sound was nothing special to me; OTOH Bongos look really weird to me , but they sound great and feel very comfortable IMO.
I would take the Bongo any day just for that.

+1 I grew up on that classic 70's Ric + Acoustic 370 sound and I liked it then but now....well it has it's place but I prefer other things today. Like my Sterlings+Eden+Acme B210

Yes I have played a Rick and although with the pickup cover it is the least comfortable bass ever I am still a fan of their sound... but I can admit that when my Bongo arrives I can't wait to blow all those ignorant minds
