When you'll have your Bongo :
- those guys won't ask anymore why you bought it
- so you will not need to search for an answer anymore

Always have an open ear on other persons advices ; but if you fell it's crap, do what you think !

Anyway I would just like to know what some of you guys would say if someone told you that the Bongo was a bad move just incase I get into another situation like this :)

Polite version: "If you care more about how an instrument looks than how it sounds, then I think you've got your priorities messed up."

Less polite version: "Who asked you anyway? Gimme a break...it's my bass and I'll play what I want. BTW, your shirt makes you look like Clay Aiken."

Less less polite version: "Get your head out of your a$$. Maybe you'll be able to hear how good this thing sounds a bit better."

Sneaky version: Ask his girlfriend "What do you think? Do you like it? I think it's kinda sexy, don't you? And it sounds cool, huh?" (Chicks dig Bongos.)

Weird version: "Ah, yes...another unenlightened philistine. Worry not, my son. The Bongo Mind Control Rays will soon have their effect upon you...MUHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!! And you may henceforth call me Bongo Boy, Lord and Master of the Submelodic Hertz Domain."

Fed-up version: "Shut up and play yer guitar."

Passive-aggressive version: Say nothing. Just play, loud, and blow their panties off.

Only the bass player has the authority to decide what bass to play.

I choose to play Bongos and Sterlings and if anybody don't like it, they can kiss my white, fat, cellulose infested, stinky, old a$$!!!

... sorry, but I had to say it. :D

I just threw up in my mouth a little.....

and to answer the direct question: it is your bass. That means it is your sound, your preferences and your money. I am not a huge fan of the Bongo styling myself and dont think I could get past that to own one, but I do love the sound. SO, your best bet, is to play it and let him hear it kick his Made in 3rd world country Fender all over the stage :D

Enjoy it, its your gear and your sound. Your other option os ti make fun of his rig

You made the right choice, choosing the Bongo over the Rickenbacker.

I never really cared for the Rickenbacker basses.

Rickenbacker makes wicked good popcorn though. :D

I keep threatening to get a rick guitar I think they remind me of my youth.

Brian's got one and I can't remember the last time it actually made it to a gig. Or a rehearsal, for that matter.

I know people who like the guitars but I'm not one of them. I do like the sound of those jangly 12ers, but god help me if I ever tried to tune one.

Or re-string one. Gulp.

I wouldn't mind having another Ric bass....oh wait. Let me get back to you on that.

BP, that was just mean. And very funny....

I think you have to have grey hair to qualify to buy a new one.

Jack, people will probably either want to kill you or kiss you when you get this thing. Me, they'll just want to put the boot in!

And as for the original subject...play what you play best. The Bongo is a very transparent instrument for most folks-they just don't think about the feel because it so easy, and concentrate on getting out of their meat and into the music. Rics are cool, but they're like Teles-they make real demands of the player, too.

I would love to have a Rick.
Now when it comes to where I spend my money things get different.

Ricks have played many a memorable bass line.

I play bongos. Those guys that play Ricks are probably better than I am if not I am just as good as they are.

It ain't all about what bass you play.

It is about the muscian in you.
