I searched the previous threads for this but couldn't find direct discussion relating to it.

A couple of weeks back I was at my local dealer talking to my salesman friend about Music Man colors. The discussion turned to the EVH model since he's owned 4 or 5 of them before. That got me thinking about solid black and these pictures that I saved from a couple of ebay auctions YEARS ago.

I finally dug them up. Seems like one of the sellers claimed that there were only 14 in this color produced. Can anyone validate that? Anybody on the forum own one of these?

Your dog doesn’t look like it gives a crap but it’s colour is complementary to your ASS. ;)

i think its cool because there was a choice (and still is), IMHO some Axis' look better natty, some don't. Each to their own...

Colin i agree with your comment above, a natty EVH is rare and just goes to show that those who step out of the norm have a more unique value proposition. Well done EB for allowing the flexibility!

Those were random numbers of production and im not sure of the exact but we never made things because of EVH or wolfies Birthday...

I posted the birthday theory in a previous thread about the goldtop EVH that sold for $75K because Ed's is 1/26 and Wolfie's is 3/16. It is widely reported there were 26 goldtops and 16 solid black EVH's made with green being 3rd at 96 pieces. Are you saying this is in fact not true? Did Ed ask for a specific number of any colors be made? With the value of these guitars increasing like it is these facts are really impotant to a few people.

Ed never asked that we limit anything...Neither did his business manger. There was no demand for the black and gold...

Underatnd taht the most valuable things after the fact were in fact the least desirable...,why is a 58 les paul so valuable? because they didnt make many....nobody wanted them in 1958....true story My dad was stuck with a few in his store for years.

4Boogie you had me sold on that theory as it made total sense, though I never knew Eds birthday till it was mentioned.Seems that it is just a freaky coincidence but I give you kudos for coming up with it.lol

I guess it's kind of like the scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark, where Belloq says;

"Look at this. [holds up a silver pocket watch] It's worthless. Ten dollars from a vendor in the street. But I take it, I bury it in the sand for a thousand years, it becomes priceless! Like the Ark. Men will kill for it; men like you and me."

BP's explanation makes total sense. If the production numbers of those colors were limited due to a request from EVH, EBMM would be under no obligation to honor that request on the Axis. After EVH left, we did not see a dramatic rise in the production of those colors.

Maybe BP can help me out on this:

Isn't it true that you could have ordered you EVH in either solid black or gold?
I guess my question is, at some point in the production years, did the option to order EVHs in those colors go away, or was it just that not many were ordered?

This is the coolest thread !

I really like the solid black.......might have to order an Axis now :rolleyes:

The thought process on "product demand" from BP makes total sense. Thanks BP for the data on EVH, that was very informative.
