Being a bassist in my country and craving for a good quality bass is a difficult thing. The market is overloaded with cheap Korean and Chinese instruments (no disrespect; for the money they are very good instruments) but to find a reputable brand is almost impossible. It seems that finally our local MusicMan distributor has changed. The previous distributor had many problems, and after chasing them for more than a year for Stingray5, I gave up hope and had to order mine from US. I've talked to the new distributor, they seem to be eager to provide various models and options. Hopefully I'll be able to put my hands on a Bongo to "try it out before buying" - a rare treat in here.

Anyway, their first party consisted of guitars only, and I get to see an S.U.B. guitar up close and personal. While the construction was impeccable, I was put off by the textured finish; not the looks of it (as a matter of fact it looks cool IMHO), but it may be uncomfortable for the right arm. Can any S.U.B. owners comment on this?

Sorry if this is all old news, we don't get to see a MusicMan guitar everyday...

When I had my SUB, I didn't find the textured finish to be a problem at all. And you are right - a lot of people find the look to be extremely cool. I had numerous comments from folks who liked the appearance of the SUB. What I found uncomfortable was the slab body. It was the first one I had ever had and it dug into my forearm when I played. I prefer the contured body so that my forearm is laying on a smooth surface instead of the edge of the body.

Well, I've sworn by my SUB for nearly a year now. I've played it in all sorts of ways, and in all sorts of conditions. I've jumped around with my SUB and headbanged and hung it low and held it high. I often sit for hours with it in my lap as I play. I have to say, I personally have never had a problem with the body, and I Love the texture. However, I could very easily see how one could be annoyed by the slab. So really it's up to you. It's an amazing instrument and I swear by it and have no problems with it but this is just one SUBbers oppinion. Good luck.
