Been a long time since I made a YouTube video, but thought I'd share it on here with you guys! The JP is just unparalleled for this type of stuff, I love it so much :D

Thanks so much, FantasyMetal, if you want me to lay something down over your tracks, PM me, I'd love to do that for the banter!

You are most welcome! You can check out some of my recordings through the link below if you are interested!

Amazing stuff bro! I too have the JPX! You make me proud to be an owner of such a fine instrument. A couple questions though:

What amp are you using in this video?
What are you using to record the video?
did you mix in pro tools or garage band or anything like that?

Thanks,

Devin

Devin, thanks for your kind words :)

Amp wise it's Amplitube 3 on the Mark III setting into Logic 9. Video was recorded with an iPhone 4, then the audio and video were mixed in iMovie!

I'm a BSc Music Technology student at Queens University Belfast, so I love recording and mixing and stuff, unfortunately there wasn't much mixing done in this, just playing to a pre-mixed BT! Hit me up though if you'd like to hear my own stuff!

Thanks for all the information! I think I have most of that stuff! I just don't know how to use it yet! What are you using to interface your guitar with Logic 9? I have Logic and garage band as well. I would really, really love to start recording myself and having it sound halfway decent and look good too! I have an iPhone 4 as well which would help achieve the HD video!

Are there any tutorials on youtube where I could learn what you know? :)

I'm using a focusrite saffire preamp/DA converter, nice crisp and transparent preamp!

There are a few general mixing rules I like to go by when mixing heavy stuff, generally there'll be a lot of EQ'ing needed post recording, as distorted guitars are essentially shaped noise, they take up a lot of sonic real-estate. The muddy region on guitars is around 120hz, get rid of some of that and you'll tighten your sound up instantly, and I like to low-pass around 13,000hz, to leave a lot of room for cymbals. Again, these are just generalisations :)

With mixing there's no secret formula in my eyes, every mix is different, and the most important tools are either side of your brain, you gotta take the sources into account. However, there should be plenty of decent tutorials on youtube on how to use EQ's and compressors, which are pretty much your meat and potatoes of mixing, my advice is to get to grips with every feature on those, the built in ones in Logic are more than adequate! :) Hope this is of some use to you!

Oh and in terms of amp simulations, dive into impulse responses! You use them post head-simulation with a convolution loader such as space designer in Logic for cab replication, they're the most accurate way of getting a proper cab sound, there are some truly phenomenal IR's out there, check out God's Cab!
