i think its the extra bass being produced by the HH setup; just like you suspect. there really is a lot of low end from the HH setup, people need to hear it to understand what the fuss is about.

this is interesting. i am going thru a similiar struggle between my two sterlings and my SR 5. all are great but i LOVE my sterlings. the SR 5 sounds flatter to my ears with more low mid bark and considerably less highs, even acoustically there is a very audible difference. i was somewhat disappointed with the SR 5 at first but have realized that i have to appreciate what it offers me- variety. and i found its niche the other day while jamming with a drummer and guitar player. it was best in blues, and a few Sabbath tunes we played. the sterling covered everything in between- Bob Marley to funk. i still prefer to play the sterlings on their own over the 5 b/c they create my sound more so then the 5 does. however, in the mix the 5 definitely has its settings and strong points.
