when I got my AL with MM90's I was really surprised as to how clean and "chimey" they sound - the only draw back (for me) was the amount of "real estate" they take up on the guitar - I'm forever hitting them when I'm hybrid picking .. and this is coming from a guy that played a 3 pickup Les Paul for 30 years!!!

The SSS are great pickups - I love 'em. -It's all down to your own preference really

Thanks Spud, I really appreciate the comment. To be honest, I wanted to keep an open mind with the MM90's because all the sound clips I've seen just sounded great (so unique!) and everyone here loves them so much.

However, to be even more honest, I just wanted to chase the classic single coil sound with just a minor change. I think that perhaps the best way to go would be the SSS Al. Still not 100% sure yet, but I'm leaning that way.

I do mostly cover work, so with my 25th and an SSS AL, I'm sure there aren't any sounds I wouldn't be able to cover effectively.

The MM90's will be more ballsier, you'll find they are supreme. Cleans are awesome, not SRV type stuff though, for a comparison. Even the SSS AL is different enough from a classic single coil tone that you may as well go MM90, the silo special is more classic SSS tones imo, due to alder body etc.

Cant say ive ever done anything other than a GREAT gig with any MM90 EBMM axe, always walked away floating on a cloud. Humbuckers can kiss my skinny aussie backside.

I'd go SSS. The MM90's are great but for true diversity in your tonal options I'd get something as different as possible to the humbuckers.

I played an DD2 AL mm90 today!
The cleans were amazing.
I wish the'd had an SSS to compare.

Pete's is matching headstock and I was told it's not for sale, heck it's even under glass too.

You can see it under the giant sandwich. :)
