Davidjbass put his white fretless BigAl5H up for sale last Friday and it was an offer I simply couldn't refuse.

I think it looks pretty neat next to my fretless Bongo, and I can't imagine you'll see a pair quite like this again anytime soon.

I've only had a couple of minutes to mess around with it, but so far I like it. I need to adjust the action to my liking, but I'm going to wait until it's had a little time to settle first. I'll probably drop some new strings on it this weekend, too. I'm definitely going to leave roundwounds on it since the Bongo has flats.

There is a good chance that the Big Al will get a refinish at some point in the future. I've got a baby due in January, so I'm thinking of daphne blue or some manner of pink depending on what it is. For the amount of money I have in it, I can get it refinished and still be way under what I would have paid for a new one.

But, for now, it stays white and part of an uncommon pair of toothless albinos.

I'll post more pictures soon, and I'll see about making some sound clips, too. I now know the answer to the "Can a Big Al be used without a pickguard" question. :D

What a pair! Great score on the BA! I would love to own it.

Congratulations!

Funny...I was just thinking about this bass a couple of hours ago since I knew that it was for sale.

They look killer together...two white fretless unlined EBMM 5-strings.

I don't know... you might want to leave it white.

Personally, I really like it!

Take it from another Big Al 5 single H owner...you're going to LOVE this bass!

Thanks--Now that it's here, I'm less inclined to spend the extra money to get it refinished (making the price I paid for it almost criminal). In any event, a refinish is not going to happen anytime soon.

There's quite a bit of real estate with the single H pickguard, so I imagine I could get my "it must be different" fix by finding some outlandish replacements...

What the hell are we east coasters doing posting at 5:30am?

The reason I'm still awake is that I just played a gig tonight (last night?) with my Big Al 5 single H and I'm still awake due to being excited about it. Get used to it...it's a good feeling.

I though that the previous owner (davidjbass) had another pickguard that he had bought for it. Did you get that as well?

Jason, it's nice to see you're not letting impending fatherhood get in the way of a new bass purchase. Getting it before the baby comes was a good move. :D I think the white looks great.

I look forward to checking that one out when I'm down there in August. I've been wanting to try a Big Al recently but struck out at a couple of different GC locations.
