"I Know There's Something Going On" ------------Frida

Yep - Darryl Steurmer can rip out a solo (whenever Phil Collins lets him);) Collins produced that album and used most of his solo band on it in the studio.

Seriously - Genesis recruited him to cover Steve Hackett's parts, plus I think he played for Jon Luc Ponty prior to that. A few years ago Steurmer put out a fusion album of the Genesis songs he played on live - very interesting instrumental arrangements.

Toto - Rosanna

Bon Jovi - Livin' on a Prayer, Wanted Dead or Alive

Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing

and pretty much anything that i manage to squeeze out while playing live.. which at the time i think is sh*te, but then end up finding out later that it was actually pretty good. :p lol

"Baker Street"-Gerry Rafferty
"One Of These Nights"-Eagles
"Beat It"-MJ

Special Mention to a handful of guys who pretty much tore up everything they touched-

Neil Geraldo
Howard Leese
Elliott Easton

Their solos were always better than the songs that surrounded them.

I really don't rate that solo at all. In fact I really, really don't like it! Timing, tuning, and the not-in-a-good-way off-key notes all really bother me.

"Right Now" on "For unlawful Carnal Knowledge" is the quality of Eddie solo that "Beat It" should have had but never got close to.

I'll agree that it's not as great as it is unexpected.

I was thinking about this just the other day when I was listening to the radio. The 90's band Concrete Blonde actually had some good solos.

Mankey, their guitar player, had an interesting tone and sense of phrasing. I thought Joey and God With A Bullet had some nice tasteful solos.
