Maybe you should contact your dealer and find out if there is a possibility that the company cuts the nut of your bass for E-C tuning?

It's interesting because I think there is no high C fiver around this forums at all.

I thought about this, spoke to Bass Central when I changed the order and he gave me the word back from EBMM - no E-C coming from SLO. Bass Central offered to change the strings for me prior to shipment but I said that wouldn't be necessary.

I've done this a few times in the past and never noticed a problem. If anything, I'll get the nut re-cut down the road by a good guy in Los Angeles (Eric Chaz).

I completely understand EBMM not wanting to string E-C and I've already worked out a solution for this. I will begin discussions with BP mid-2012 for the miggity diggity mstott25 Big Al edition and hope we can begin a prototype of that sometime in 2013. It will be a surf green Big Al 5 string, tuned E-C with a ramp...wait for it...

The whole High Five (E-C) tuning has become more popular recently with guys like Janek Gwizdala, Matt Garrison, Tony Grey and Hadrien Feraud. I'm much more influenced by Steve Swallow and Dave Carpenter (RIP) the latter of which I was fortunate enough to see regularly. Swallow has been a huge influence and his chromatic approach to the root progression and melody of tunes lines itself up very nicely to a one finger per fret bass/guitar fingering. The high C string makes the consistency for those types of lines in one register much easier to accomplish. I've been transcribing Steve Swallow for years and the leaps I'd take from one position to the next to compensate for that High C is one aspect I will thankfully leave in the past.

I see so much potential for the Big Al that I envisioned a whole new field for exploration and development of my personal sound. I see the same potential in the Bongos, but for reasons mentioned elsewhere I opted for the Big ol' Al.

I'm very excited, can't wait to get it and I'll post vidz and the such right away.

I honestly don't understand the reason for stringing a bass this way. I guess if you play a lot of lead lines, this would be helpful, but it IS a bass after all...

Economy of motion. You play across the neck instead of up it. And it's MUSIC after all...

BUT...

It's rainy and dark in Southern Arizona...and this bad boy is getting photographed in the light, so all you get is a teaser!

I'll be back by weeks end with more photos and maybe some video/soundclips. This bass slays everything I've ever owned before, I'm so happy with my decision. Really glad I went with the color/combo I liked best and was patient. Gotta tip my hat to Bass Central as well. I wanted E-C tuning but I'm having fun with the low B for now, so we'll see...

Furthermore, came back to the forum after not peeking in for awhile and saw the thread for jaydawg, couldn't be more impressed with the guys here and the company behind these basses. Really proud to know you guys and have given my business to such an outstanding company.
