Sorry to be a momumental pain but have been searching for the answer but not found a definitive one yet.

How do I clean my sweaty dirty paws marks off my lovely maple fretboard?

I use a credit card to scrape off any "gank" (usually the card with the highest balance), and diluted mixture of murphy's and water. Only a lightly damp cloth, and wipe off right away. usually does the trick.

Look at the FAQ section on the www.ernieball.com site. There's a good section in there on how to do it.

My Axis SS was grungy from the store, I just didn't see it under the lights. Same goes for a Silhouette I just bought. Murphy's Oil brought them back to like-new.

Yes, I was a little confused by this a while back. I seem to recall the FAQ recommends lemon oil, and yet on a lot of lemon oil bottles (for guitar cleaning) it clearly states "not for use with maple boards". So I made sure the bottle I bought didn't have that statement specifically written IN BOLD on it, and I cleaned my SR4 neck up with that, and the newly sparkly clean neck didn't fall off when I next played it, so I assumed I was good to go.

It's been a number of months now, and the neck is still connected to the body, and none of the frets have dropped off, so I think it's "relatively" safe to assume using Lemon Oil is A-O-K (and smells good too)!

:D

Oh I have no idea now......

might just keep the dirt....

Ha-ha, I don't think anyone has stated you should not clean your maple neck with lemon oil (or orange oil), so just go for it Rob. From my experience with lemon oil (guitar cleaning grade) you shouldn't have any problems. Heck, I've heard people on this forum recommend the use of Pledge furniture polish to clean their guitars (not suggesting this is a good idea) so you should be fine with some high grade lemon oil! No guts, no glory!

Don't be like me! I was told to use Pledge furniture polish on mine and did so for about a year!

I guess it wasn't wise to listen to a guy that's a Fernandes player. Glossy necks.

Are there specific brands and sources we should look for? I know many of the lemon oils contain petroleum distillates, etc., and we're generally told to stay away from those.

For many years I've always Used the Birchwood Casey Oils, for me nothing has been better,
Used it on all my old Fenders and Now with the many music man basses I'm still using it, And many ask why.
#1 it's about the one of not too many that seals the pours in the wood and second it buffs so good and smooth as glass and never becomes Sticky.
I'd recomend 0000 steelwool for removing all grime of the neck also.
Then final Use 2000 grit sand paper on the back and you'll be set.

I'd AVOID THAT LEMON OIL
