Since my AL MM90 has been sitting in its case for 3 years now and noone here in Germany or Europe wanted to buy it, I thought, wtf, why not just change the single thing, that I dislike about the guitar: The pickups?!
I ordered a AL 2H Pickguard, which I saw Chandler offering by coincidence.
After some careful routing (had to be) I installed a set of DiMarzio Air Norton Neck and Norton F-Spaced bridge.
And the result is...
FABULOUS!!!!!! The pickups are in the same ballpark as the original Axis pickups, but for the moment I seem to like them even more, because they're more versatile for clean and crunch sounds. There is some kind of twang to the guitar even with these humbuckers! And in heavy overdrive to higain they just sing, growl and the bridge pickup has that certain "awwww" to it, while retaining just the right amount of sizzle.

Although I own this guitar since 2007 it feels to me, as if I had a new guitar. Finally it feels right for me and I can enjoy the AL-mania!

Quick delete the thread before he reads it. Probably too late. He's just stewing about the sacrilege. I like it and too each his own.

haha.....you got a new guitar without buying a new guitar. As much as I like Als and like MM90's, I just need to have room to dig in someplace and can't with a MM90 Al. I guess it's why I've got the MM90 Axis and the SSS Al.

Nice work! And it's 100% reversable, so it's technically not modded.

Looks very nice, nothing wrong with it at all! And you can always go back to the mm90's if you chose to give them a second chance...

Hard to believe noone wanted to buy it...such a nice color! Now enjoy the AL goodness.

Here in Europe EBMM guitars are VERY expensive. And here they are still - imo - insiders' tips.
I tried to get hold of a used AL at the time (end of 2007), but no chance. So I bought it from someone in the U.S. and it was still a bargain, considering the state the guitar was in, and considering that I had to - of course - pay custom fees and import sales tax.

I don't like pickup covers, since I've had them steal bite and treble and make the guitar squeal easily.

Actually I consider selling the original pickups and pickguard. But not now, I still have to figure out, if this is it.
