Watched Drew's wonderful tutorial on restoring necks. My problem is that local hardware and art supply stores don't carry sandpaper as fine as 600 & 1000 grit. I live in the Tampa, FL area- any ideas of a place that carries fine sandpaper grades? Or is online the only solution? Thanks!

stew-mac.com is a great source for finer sandpapers. i use the 3m adhesive backed sandpapers for guitarwork and it is a superior sandpaper. doesn't load up as much as regular sandpaper and the adhesive back sticks to your hand for easier handling.

i also use it for fret leveling, finish work etc.

For those looking in on this thread, Home Depot, Lowes, Michaels, & Jo Ann Fabrics do not carry sandpaper that fine. I will try some local Auto Parts stores first before I dive in and buy online, or wait till I get a bigger order together from Stew Mac to justify shipping price.

Mincer I cant believe the Home Depot near you does not carry it as mine does. Maybe they just did not have any in stock and you could ask them to order some. But I would believe you will find it at an Auto Parts store, call ahead so you do not have to take a ride for nothing. I like the sound of what Pat was using as the adhesive back sounds great. That is the way I would go.

My HD doesn't carry anything finer than 600 grit. Nor do Lowes or any of my local paint stores.

Definately any "real" paint store would have it or a specialty body shop supply store or even the local NAPA has it in my area.

AutoZone was the winner. Went all the way to 2000 grit, which kinda feels like notebook paper. Thanks for all the suggestions and boo to all of the mega hardware stores (HD, Lowes) in my area that didn't have anything finer than 400 grit.
