That's beautiful Steve. It will definitely add to the visual magic at your performances. Is it the same shade as your sparkle ASS?

Thanks. It's close the the Axis but more sky blue and less teal/green, and as you noticed the flakes are a bit bigger. But to the untrained eye, they may even look the same. I wasn't going for a match though, I really wanted more blue in this one and I got it!!

Last night I was at a friend's house with it and I was wearing a green shirt and I kept thinking the guitar was greener than I wanted but then I realized it was just my shirt reflecting off the flakes! I actually tried it on this morning before work in a blue t-shirt and it was blue again... ahhh OCD can be fun...

Thanks for all the compliments guys. I know people say this all the time but it looks 10 times better in person!

The refinish is the work of Marty Bell. Who not only does amazing work, but he's super nice, super fast and incredibly reasonably priced. Really this guy is the real deal.

In fact I called him to check in 5 days after he got the guitar, just to see how it was going along. I fully expected him to say something like, "it's on the bench" or "I just got the old finish off". Instead he said, "It's done and it'll be shipped today!" I actually thought he was shipping me the wrong guitar until he emailed me a pic.

Honestly the only hard part at all was letting the guitar go once it got here the first time a few weeks ago!

I am a lucky man! :D

Steve

Thanks for the info Steve. I actually owned a custom made Jake E Lee Whitey guitar that Marty painted and it looked awesome due to his great paint work! Maybe I will give him a call and see if I can get my HRR HH AL sparkly red?

Steve, I had thought about doing something like that, about how much did it cost you to have that done?

Glenn, I knew Captain Sparkle would like it!

Marty charges $340 for a sparkle finish on a bolt-on and another $50 if you don't take it apart. I made the choice to let him do the disassembly and reassembly because I figured he would be able to fix any dings if anything should happen during that process. Then I figured I'd take it to my setup guy to adjust, but it was so close and I couldn't wait and did my own set up last night. It plays just like it did when it left and it rings and resonates beautifully too, just like when it was powder blue.

WooHoo :D

Thanks Slav, How far out are you? We're playing in Sag Harbor on Tuesday August 3rd at 6. We'll be at the outdoor amphitheater of the Children's Museum of the East End. Other than that we have some more in the hopper but no contracts yet for LI this summer. If you can make it be sure to say hello.

Not too far, I'll tell my wife about Tuesday's show and check your website for future show dates.

Thanks,
Slav

I Had to put my sunglasses on to look at the pictures!
I was wondering, how do you have to dress to play that amazing thing in public?

Excellent work man ! congrats

That's a one off piece. I'm surprised by how vintage those guitar looks with EBMM finish and How modern yours is looking today

The AL shape is really a GENIUS shape

and also hat off for you to have the balls to do such a thing on a brand new guitar

Yeah the AL body is a real homerun... It feels awesome to play one.

For me, the refinish really did not feel like a risk at all.

EBMM makes awesome guitars and Marty is the best at those finishes so I knew it was going to be exactly what I needed for the gig. Which is really the reason I did it. A sparkly HH Al is absolutely the right tool for the job I do.

I took it to a friend's house last night where 4 kids were, ages 6-9 and you should have seen them light up when I showed them this guitar. Kid's are so visual... they really respond and connect to the music more when you present it to them in a way that is visually appealing to them.

Every time I picked up that guitar last night, those kids came running. We played freeze dance and kids and parents alike sang songs together until way past their bedtimes. One 6 year old girl was holding a beat up acoustic guitar all night long even though she'd never played before.

That is why we do it...
