I can appreciate physical ability and dexterity, but if speed was all that mattered, guys like BB King, Eric Clapton, and David Gilmour would never have made any impact whatsoever in the world of music.
Most of my favorite guitar solos are relatively slow and easy to play. Melody and coolness rule! :D

I can appreciate the skill of playing fast too, its just so much better when its in the context of a good song.

I never could get turned on to guys like Vai and Joe Satriani but for some reason Paul Gilbert and John Petrucci are good listening to me. Probably because of the whole band efforts instead of just having a backing track made for shredding on. I do like the shred but only a select few.
