So what are the arguments FOR a Nito finish?
LIke RBG said, a theme for the launch - vintage vibe throwback. Purists may say the guitar breathes more and sounds better/different. Physically it'll wear differently and usually gets a nice patina after enough exposure. That's all I got off the top of my head.

I'm personally in the camp that, when it comes to electric guitars, the finish type contributes next to nothing to the sound (acoustics are a whole different animal).

However, nitro finishes are more prone to cracking, discoloring with age, and wearing through when compared to polyurethane or the polyester finishes that EBMM typically uses. Depending on your view of a finish showing age, those may all be advantages. Some people prefer their guitars to show wear, just like some folks like relic'd guitars.

In other words, I don't think nitro finishes offer any advantages compared to any other finish on an electric guitar, any more than one color has an advantage over another. It's a matter of personal taste and preference.

I'm 100% with you on the sound properties and all of the industry marketing talk about allowing the wood to "breathe".

A nitro finished guitar does offer a cool vibe in how it ages and ends up looking like an "old" guitar and not having as much of a plastic-y look. To me, that's about the only thing it's got going for it. They also smell nice while they're still gassing off too! o_O
