SR 5 Bridge Saddle Groove Question

All, just changed strings for the first time on my new (to me) '00 SR 5, to a new set of Slinkys. I noticed for the first time that the grooves in the saddles vary a bit from string to string - did not measure, but it appears that at least the the G and possibly the D string saddles are narrower that the other 3 string's saddles. However, I also noticed that the .130 B string is barely wider than the B saddle groove, as the string doesn't sit in the bottom of the groove... is this right, and more importantly does it really matter...? I can't really notice a difference sound-wise...

Back then the saddle grooves varied in width from the high to the low strings.

I don't think it matters if the string doesn't sit all the way to the bottom of the groove...but I stand corrected.

Gav, thanks... so does that mean that at some point after 2000, the grooves in the saddles for all 5 strings became the same width...? Was the width of the groove for the low B increased to fit the .130 B...?

From circa mid 2003 the grooves are "V" cut and are all uniform.

Rod, thanks for the info... interesting stuff. Seems to me that the current bridge setup makes the most sense for both manufacturer and buyer...
