IIRC, ceramic magnets are full width bar magnets
below the row of slugs. So I xpek those are alnico,
which would make sense for an early model [first
version] SR5 with no dummy coil.

OOOPPZEZ ... yeah I forgot to cornsider the dual PU models.
The way the switching is arranged, no dummy coil is needed
cuz one of the other coils handles the humbugging chores.

Nevillethelesch I do bleeb thaz alnico, mainly cuz I don't see
the bar magnet, which is the only form of ceramic magnet I
know of in use by MM.

Whether your specimens are just very slightly ahead of their
time is a question far beyond simple Newtonian Psychics, so
we'll hafta to wait for a Particle Physicist to chime in. I think
my SR5HS is a 2008. It's alnico, but I'm not up on the exact
month thing. I suspect there is no exact month thing in the
MusicMan manufacturing calendar. They're not afraid of the
Mayans, even tho they live closer to them than most of us.

I remember seeing some pictures of EBMM basses that instead of the bar, and small round ceramic magnets on the bottom of each pole piece.

There were also some revisions of the SR5 that had no phantom coil, even with one humbucker. So you get the single coil sound but with hum.

Hello Nicolas,

It looks like I have the same pickups in my 2013 SR5 HH, they have the same "Rev B" text and another text that seems to be a part number. I've checked the specs and DOB of the mentioned bass, and have been informed that they are Alnico pups.

If you are interested, I can send you some pictures of my pickups.

Regards,
Rafael.
