I bring shame to my name by posting this here...... I feel like a dork for selling something I just bought. I love the Stingr but I should have test driven it with a strap. It is heavy and enormous for my little frame. I plan to pick up a Sterling because I need that MM sound!!!!!! The SR was the best sounding bass I had ever played. Now I am temporarily back to my '83 Ibanez Roadstar 2 while I await the perfect bass. I must admit the Ibanez is light weight and feels like a comfortable pair of jeans that you should have thrown away a year ago.

I know the Sterling is only 5oz lighter than the SR but with the smaller body the weight is more manageble. Even though I love the SR neck, I will be faster on a Sterling neck.

I want trans pink!!!! Come on MM it is sure to be a big seller..... yea right.

My Buttercreme SR4 is a featherweight 8.75 lbs. I'm an idiot for trying to trade it, but the neck is the issue for me as well. The Bongo just fits me much better.

If it's one of these Roadstars, that's a very good bass. I bought this one new in '83 myself. The pic is from '84.

That is a sweet bass! Too bad I'm not Ray player anymore. But, when I saw that bass strapped on you (given your size), I knew you couldn't (or wouldn't) be comfortable for very long; definitely not for a full night gig.

Good Luck on the sale. I think the Sterling will be your best bet, if you go EBMM.

Those pants are 1984 alright. Yep those Roadstars were trustworthy. I can't say any thing bad about mine. I was the 3rd owner in 1986. I am a guitar player first so it had some years of little to no use but it also got plenty of play. It has been dropped, bumped, banged and dinged a hundred times and still sounds good. Just the other week a guy using it lifted it into the ceiling fan while taking it off. Needless to say I was more concerned for the ceiling fan.

I could have attempted a trade but I want to be picky about the finish my Sterling will have and it has to be rosewood. The SR is so new that I should be able to get most of what I paid for it. .....I like buttercreme, natural, white, orange.... I guess I do like most finishes.

That is interesting how the guitars really range in weights. I will probably buy used on Ebay so I will have to just cross my fingers.

Ben what year is your buttercreme? Is that what the cases use to look like or a special issue case? It looks nice with the buttercreme. I want to pull up to the table with a spoon.

LisaIs - The Buttercreams were a 2005 Limited Edition run. They all came with Tortoise Shell pick guards, matching headstocks and that case that you see in the pic.

Lisa,

The bidding could be going higher on this bass because it's an early 90's based on the bridge with mutes. These basses with the older bridge are becoming more rare.

Maybe it's getting time for EB to look at the Parker Fly and Fernandes AntiGravity ideas. I believe Rick Turner also makes an ultralight solid body. Especially now that EB is into basswood. The essence of these flyweights is a sandwich on the principle of 'FoamCore' display and sign boards [or the walls of the Flite brand speaker cabs if you know that line]: A central core of spruce or cedar or basswood is laminated between much tougher thin outer layers, often maple caps.

For a basically flat body like the SR this is no problem. I don't think it's too practical for something with so much surface sculpting like a Bongo. Once the body is lightened, obviously a longish top horn is needed unless you want a neck made of honeycombed unobtanium [very expensive and, tonewise, controversial].
