This is my first post in this fourm!!

I ordered my first Music Man bass 4 months ago. (still waiting) I read a recent thread speaking about how great the Music Man sounded with GK stuff.

I actually loved my old GK RB800 but traded it in for an Eden Traveller Plus with a matching 410 XLT cab about 10 years ago. Needless to say I've very happy with it and haven't felt the need to change rigs. To date, I mostly play my FBass with it and have a Fender Jazz as well as a Yamaha with upgraded pickup to sound like a Music Man. (The Yamaha upgrade didn't actually make it sound like a MM but hey, I tried, and it looks super cool.)

What is the experts (you guys) opinion of the SR sound through Eden equipment?? I know both tend to have rather bass heavy sound around 40 Hz? Thoughts, experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
MF

Hello and welcome MF!

Everyone likes different basses, amps, cabs, effects etc. - and all combinations and permutations thereof. When asked what is best, I think we tend to recommend what WE use. I think you will love your SR4 through your Eden rig (see mine in my sig below!). Don't second guess your decision to by a EBMM Stingray in context of your current rig - I'm sure you will love the bass and the tone through your Eden rig. Make sure you post some pictures when it arrives! Exactly what colour/configuration of Stingray did you order? EDIT - sorry, I now see you ordered a Translucent Gold Black Ice HH - sweet! Don't worry, you will be happy.

Although I am pretty much new to this forum, I have owned a MMSR4 for 16 years and it's always been my main bass.

I have been using SWR heads and cabs, which are my personal fav. However, some on this forum have suggested other stuff for me to try out..so if something I presently own develops a problem..I will take it into consideration. But as long as what I presently use works well (reliability is a MAJOR factor when you gig a lot)..then I feel no need to change.

Now my personal take on this is the sound comes from the BASS..and of course how you play it. So as long as you are using a quality amp/cab setup that can accuratly reproduce the tone and frequencies produced from the bass...I can't see what difference the brand of amp/cab makes. IMHO of course, other opinions absolutly vary..especially here..lol And in my case I play a share of larger venues where the soundmen insist on putting me direct to the board...so all my setup is really good for is the stage sound when I am right in front of the cabs (I use 2-4x10 cabs..and add 2x 15s if the stage has room). When I need to use my amp to improve the sound of my bass..it does work as a crutch..but I would think I need to do something with the bass if not satisfied with the tone as a long term remedy. Of course if you love the tone of your bass..then there should be no problems with how it sounds when amplified

Now the freq. range of human hearing is 20-20,000hz in a perfect world. The Fletcher-Munson effect or "curve" depicts the uneven frequency response of human hearing. So not only is our hearing "uneven" so to speak...no 2 humans have identical hearing and there are measurable differences in the normal healthy frequency response between men and women (probably natures survival instinct so women can hear babies crying from far away..or what is known to any husband as "wife hearing"). Well what this all comes down to is how well your setup can reproduce the fairly narrow band that typical bass players utilize..different sytles have different band width requirments so that is a factor..but all in all..if the bass sounds good..the amps job is to increase the volume..and the speakers job is to convert the electrical audio signal to analog so we can hear it..which most quality amps and speakers do amazingly well at.

Oh, and I prefer Pepsi.

Havent had much experience with Eden cabs, but their heads have always treated me great.

Seem to really make an EBMM basses sing.
