So, I stopped by my local Guitar Center to hear their Mark Bass again, and got the guy to get the 30th from way up on the wall to try it out with. Almost came home with everything, but only went for the Stingray. It fits in well with the family...

It seriously kick out. I didn't know there would be that much of a difference from my other Stingrays. I put it through an SWR too (my usual amp), to make sure it wasn't just the Mark Bass.

BTW, I almost did one of those Pee Wee's Bid Adventure moves when I was lining them up for the photo. One started to slip and I got scared they would go down like dominoes.

Time to invest in some guitar stands!

There is some serious stuff going on with those 30ths. I usually play fivers but DANG, what a punch in the chest that 30th has. I've been through a bunch of Stingrays this last year, looking for one that would give me the same thwak my Bongos do, and I do believe we have a winner with that mahogany body beast.

Nice collection!

Could not agree more. I first played this bass and then had to decide how to afford one! It is slammin. I think this is going to be my new favorite 4 string Stingray ahead of both of my 2 bands!

This one was kept up high so it was hard to see, and obviously hadn't been touched since being hung up (the thick layer of dust was undisturbed). So it escaped the fate of the lower hanging fruit that gets the crap played out of it at the GC.

yeah, mine was in a locked display at GC near me. No one had touched it as the case was covered in dust. Amazing bass.

I got mine put on layaway before it ever went on display. Someone pre-ordered it and then backed out and I got the first call about it being available.

Un-put-down-able...

I haven't been able to put mine down since I got it, and haven't practiced so much in years. It's seriously the best sounding bass I can remember ever owning (and I've owned a lot - hundreds). Perfect for my style of playing. What more could one ask for? The sound is amazing, the finished neck is buttery smooth playing, the combination of "whatever" makes the EQ so much more pronounced and variable than the other Ray's and Sterlings I've owned (and they were all killer basses), it's so punchy, it looks great. It's me--my voice!

If I could now find an SR5 that sounded as heavenly as this 30th... I'd be fullfilled! My GAS would be over... well maybe not over, but drastically curtailed. There's always the Sterling 5 to look forward to.

You really do, Bill.

Let's blame Tim Dawson again!

Say what? I corrupted you, dear sir . . . . the rest are on their own!!!!

And frankly, methinks that a lot of your verbage took me to the Bongo, so, all I can say is:

Neener Neener Neener! Now we are even!!! Thbbbbbbbbbbb!!!

So there!

I was in Co' Springs in august and played one at the GC there, they musta got a couple of them. I hate to say, that city doesn't have very good bass selections.
