Question for the Stingray 5 gurus - for a .130 low B, how many winds? Do your strings wrap over? Do they come off the top or bottom of the peg? Inquiring minds want to know!

I've heard that wrapping can mess 'em up but I don't know if it's true. The three MM's I've bought new have been wound 2 wraps from the top down. After taking off the old strings I straighten them as much as possible and cut the new ones to the same length. I then put the end all the way down in the center hole, bend it around the peg at the bottom of the string slot and wind. So far no problems and once they set from the first tuning I haven't seen any slippage.

I'll echo - 2 wraps. But I know from my knuckleheaded (no pun intended) experience that my Big Al worked just fine with barely 1 wrap after I mistakenly started stringing the E on the B, the A on the E, etc. Noticed my mistake and was able to get them around barely once on the proper posts.

Interesting how some wind from the bottom up and some from the top down. I wonder how much difference it makes mechanically or soundwise. One or the other produces a different angle to nut and probably downforce into the nut slot.

I would think with the tapered tuner pegs that the "default" is top to bottom, but I guess its a free country, right?

I've found with the new cobalts I'm taking 1/2 wind, back through the slot, then 2 winds down. They seem to be a bit slipperier (if that's a word).
