I should have known that joining this forum would be bad news for my wallet! I've been obsessing over getting a Stingray 5, but I need some opinions. I've decided on honeyburst since I've recently fallen in love with that finish. I think I want to go with a maple fingerboard and I know I want a non-matching headstock. Here's where I need your opinions: what pickguard do you think I should go for? At first I thought about a plain white pickguard, but then the black pickguard looks really nice, too. White pearl also looks great. I love tort pickguards, but for some reason I prefer them with rosewood fingerboards.

What do you think? Any photos that might push me over the edge are welcome, too!

I'll most likely be trading my black SR4 for a used SR5; that would be the best option for me right now. Anybody interested? :D

I don't have a specific bass in mind, but I'd imagine that the PU cover would be white on a bass with a white pearl or white PG.

Yeah, I love tort on sunburst finishes, but for some weird reason, tort just doesn't look right with a maple neck to me. I'm kinda picky, huh? :D

Looks like white pearloid is in the lead!

For a long time I've been actually hating that white pickguard on SR5's, and used to find the black ones sexier.
Maybe I'm getting old, but I finally learned to appreciate the beauty of that white pickguard with a maple fretboard.

Hey Randracula, is that a giant EXIT sticker you put on your SR's headstock? :p

Yeah, I may decide to go with a rosewood FB and have the tort with the honeyburst finish. That REALLY looks good!

My vote would be for tort. The rosewood fingerboard would complement it even better.

Jack, you're KILLING me! That fretless is very nearly exactly the fretless bass I'm terribly GASing over. The thought of two humbuckers gets me going even more! That bass is STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL. I really did not need to see that. I was GASing hard enough already.

Just some trivia - that fretless SR5 was the 2nd SR5 I ever owned. And my first fretless. I was completely out of my mind, thinking I could play an unlined board.

Pretty bass, though......

Well, it looks like I'm gonna end up with a burnt apple SR5, thanks to Moondog. It looks nice in the pictures! He has a white pearloid PG on it & I'm anxious to get it. My black SR4 is heading his way.
