Played an outdoor gig tonight. I played with a revolving door of percussionists/guitarists/etc for about 45 minutes and then my own band played a half an hour set. Towards the end of our set, it started to rain heavily. We were under a tarp but it was coming in from all sides.. barely had time to stop playing and get gear back inside.

Could any damage have been done to my Stingray? It still works just fine, but I was just curious about water + electronics. Should I have a look under the hood to see if anything got wet?

I would take the pickguard off and make sure that nothing got wet. If something did get wet, do your best to dry it off carefully or let it air dry.

That is actually how I got my first Stingray 5 back in 97. A fellow Berklee student was in an accident and the fire department soaked his car with water and the Stingray in the back. When he got the bass back, I stripped the bass down, cleaned everything and ended up buying the bass from him because he could no longer handle the weight on his shoulder after the wreck. To this day, it is my favorite 5, well that is until the 20th came! :D

Bottom line, these things are built like tanks. The only maintenance repairs I have ever had to do, other than adjustments, were two replaced pots on older Rays.

No kidding. I've never been so glad that I took my SR5 to a gig instead of one of my other basses - I just don't think my other basses would've made it through.

I pulled it out of the case this AM... perfectly in tune :D

Even though it's working fine, I would still open it up and make sure it's dry inside. I've never gotten one of my basses wet, but I work on computers and it's never the water that kills them when they get wet...it's always the corrosion that happens a month or two later when you don't dry it out good.
