Sorry if this has been asked but will Musicman put stainless steel frets on a Albert Lee?

Just curious - why would you want SS frets??
Lets see... how about greatly increased durability and much smoother bends?

I much prefer stainless steel frets to nickel silver, and had I not loved these instruments as much as I do, I would have abandonned MM for not offering them... Thank God for refrets!

To the OP: MusicMan wil only refret guitars with their original fret wire.

Don't believe EBMM offers them. I agree with Pablo on their buttery-smooth action...maybe a tinge of a brighter sound, but not a drastic change in tone.

Yeah, I understand the basics of SS frets!!

However, some (I included) like the "micro rough" feel of a nickel fret that builds, when burning a note with finger trem for an extended amount of time (yeah, I know, good way to really wear down the nickel fret!)

But, let's not overlook the fact almost all guitars come with stock nickel fret, and almost all players use nickel frets (artists included).

If SS frets are readily available, which they are, then why do you think hardly any player desires them??? Do you think they are just coming to the forefront now?

Just asking, I'm not opposed to them, because I know for certain that if demand for SS frets were huge, EBMM (and others) would have them on stock production.

Out of respect for BP, we should probably make this an "Off-Topic" thread to discuss it further.

Most guitars do come with Nickel frets. It's been the standard since the beginning and is cheaper. Though I have never re-fretted a guitar either way, I have heard that SS is harder to work with and much harder on re-fretting equipment. So, basically, it comes down to tradition, money, wear-and-tear on machinery, and ease to work with from my experience.

On the player side, I prefer SS frets myself. However, I would not buy a guitar simply because it has SS frets nor will I pass on a guitar that does not have SS frets if I like everything else.

I had a guitar from a direct order only company that has SS frets on it and loved them. The guitar did sound brighter when played without an amp but I didn't hear that bright snap when playing through an amp, or with my guitarport with headphones on. And after a few months of hard playing no fret wear at all. Be that as it may I did sell the guitar to get my Y2D. :D
