Just got my Sub1 back with the stainless steel frets.
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!
These frets are SUPER SMOOTH.
I do hear a slight bit more ping off the notes but not really through the amp.
I LOVE them and am looking forward to this fret dress lasting for a LONG time.
I am posting some pics the fret size is the 6105.
Also had the nut replaced with a graphite one to match the all black guitar.
Enjoy.
Trent:)

I believe it's a classic SUB Neck : maple with a rosewood fretboard. The maple is painted with a black paint. The neck of my SUB has the same aspect.

Nice. If it's allowed, can you say what it cost?

I just sold the only guitar I own that is even close to needing a refret, but it's always in my mind......

Ever think of removing the paint and doing it in tru-oil? I love the change.....did it to my sub and just did it to my non-ebmm guitars....

Sub1

Hey all,
Thanks for the posts
The neck is painted maple though I have thought about doing the tru oil finish.
I don't know if I can say what the frets and nut cost me here or not?
If someone on the forum knows just let me know as I don't mind letting you all know what it cost.
I ask the guy that did the refret if he would be willing to do this for some of the guys here on the forum and he said that he would be happy to.
I can say that it is a GREAT refret and was Cheap IMHO.:D
I am thinking about getting these frets an another one of my guitars SOON.
Cheers

Sure, you can post prices.

(The only prices you can't talk about are new dealer prices for MM guitars. Used is fine. Anything else is fine.)

Cool!
The whole job cost me $200.00.
Thats a New Handmade nut AND the Stainless Steel refret.
I think that this is a VERY GOOD price.
The work is outstanding!
What do you guys think?
Cheers

$200 is an incredible price. I haven't found a place that will do a refret for less than $300 and a lot of placed won't do stainless.

Looks great! I have 6115 stainless frets on my Silo Special and they are the business.

I can totally relate to the joy you are now feeling playing your EBMM with these frets... I had EXACTLY the same reaction when I had my Luke refretted with stainless steel frets a few years ago...

but my feelings have changed in the last 6 months or so....

BP has stated more than once that he dosen't like Stainless steel frets... at first I couldn't understand why... the new frets in my guitar felt wonderful to play on... as time passed though I found that I could hear a "ping" at the front end of every note I played and it began to really bother me... it didn't happen with my other guitars... so I changed back to normal frets and whatya know...?? the ping is gone and, to my ears at least, the guitar sounds much better..

I know that this debate will go on and on.. and I'm sure some people will disagree with my opinion about SS frets.. but I think BP and his crew are right on the money with the decision not to have them on EBMM guitars.. some of my favourite players also don't like them.. and I think I now realise why.

having said all that if you are happy with the guitar and the new frets then I can't and won't say you are wrong.....:) its all good..

$200.00 is a great price. Back in 2000 maybe 2001 I paid $300 for a re-fret on my old LP (it did not have binding) with some huge Dunlop 6000s and it was a very crappy job. Plus it took almost 3 months!!!! I get it back and the action needed to be at the lowest 3.5-4 mm high to have no buzz. Almost every fret was "dead" even with the high action. So I called the tech a few times and he was always unavailable.... So I had the frets leveled by a different tech for about $80.00 or so and now my huge Dunlop 6000 frets were more like vintage Tele frets and still played pretty awful. I was told that if I had another re-fret done it would cost me another $250-300.00 and about a month or 2 so in anger I sold it.

the ping

Just wanted to talk about the ping.
Yes I do hear what you are talking about and I too agree that the regular type of nickle silver fret does sound better BUT for this guitar I wanted to go with a fret that would hold its shape for a long time.
I teach the guitar and I will play the same riff 10 to 20 times over and over to show the student how it is done.
The result is that in the 5th(A) position and the 12th(E) position the frets just wear flat in about one years time.
I could have the frets dressed down but I like the frets to be tall to make the bend feel smooth.
I really like the feel of these frets as well.
That said I have 8 guitars so I can always pickup one with the nickle frets if I need that sound.
Thanks for all your posts as I really like the feedback.
Cheers:)
