There is a reason for the existence of stainless steel strings, and that is the sound. They are more brilliant and will give you more edge, which might suit your taste and musical style.

I play steels on some of my basses and like it a lot. Worrying about fret wear is for collectors, imho.

I am a long time user of stainless steel strings - mainly because I have an allergy to nickel. Like Chuck B, I've never had any problem with fretwear.

Their only downside is that the zing disappears and they can get quite dull quite quickly - a bigger problem if you play 'F*nder bass', as I 've heard it called recently - for an EBMM it's no problem because you have a great EQ onboard to compensate ;)

I'd recommend DR Strings "Fat Beams"

I have these on my SR5 and they sound wonderful - the point is I did want to achieve a vaguely Marcus sound - I tried a Marcus F*ender Jazz and really didn't like it at all - in fact I hated it - the SR5 is far better and these strings give it a different sound - he should try one :D

I have EBMM stainless on my SR4HH and they are great - and haven't lost that much zing. (Persevering with EBMM nickels on my Classic and the Bongo - sound great but my hands complain)
