Problem
Beat up Strat just doesn't cut the mustard.
Background
My singer- great guy, great player but doesn't have a lot of cash (he's a social worker). His beat up old Strat had just had it. Doesn't stay in tune, doesn't play well despite good setups and, well, it ain't a MM.
Mission Objective
Find an affordable MM for him, buy it on his behalf, fix it up and then surprise him with it. Later sell the Strat and use the proceeds to cover the costs of the MM.
Mission Review
Boys, happy to say this mission was a complete success. Found a great Sil Spec on Craigslist at a killer price ... but it needed TLC. Got it up here, sanded the heck out of the neck, oil/wax job, slight re-wiring, good setup and it plays like butter.
My singer? Never saw it coming. But as I couldn't pry the guitar out of his hands for long enough to explain the truss rod or the locking tuners, I don't think he'll ever be putting this one down!
Here's the lucky fella with his new Sil Spec in my backyard:
I'll sell his Strat for him this week and pay myself back. Good deed for the day, done.
