So how do these play? How are the fret ends and fretboard edge? Sharp? Nicely finished? Do tell!

The fretboard is very nicely finished. No sharp frets, no choppy board edge. Everything looks and feels really nice. And I gotta say I really like the fretboard wood.

I did not have much time with it last night, but my first impressions of the pickups were good. They were for the most part clear, not muddy and seemed to have good punch. Position 2 and 4 were not too thin which was what I was most concerned with. I am snowed in today so it will be getting a setup and I will spend some time getting acquainted better. So far I would say it is a lot of bang for the buck!

So my intention Tuesday was to play for a few and get a better feel for how I wanted to set up this guitar, about three hours later I was still playing. I still plan on doing a set up, but honestly right out of the box this guitar is great. It feels good, not cheap, it feels substantial. The body has good weight, and it is well balanced. The neck is what I would consider a chunky C. Neck finish is smooth, fret board edges are smooth and fret ends are perfect. I really like the jatoba fret board. I generally shy away from rosewood or woods like it, but I really, really like this board. It is a great guitar as far as I am concerned. I am more of a function over flash when it comes to my guitars and this one nails that mark! The only thing I may change would be adding locking tuners.

Yeah this is a SUB series so not all the bells and whistles...
Im surprised it has a mahogany body... that's kind of cool. I tried one at NAMM and loved it but the LUKE took the prize home for me. I'm looking at the the AL next... but gotta try and play one again before I pull the trigger.

I am really diggin it! I have lusted after an HH for a long time but just never had the funds to pull the trigger on an actual EB. I would love to see a next level SBMM in sparkle yellow like Blues Saraceno plays come out. But this AL40 was a nice intro to the model. Sterling did a hell of a job.

Just got my Daphne Blue HH and I was blown away by the versatility and playability. It is definitely my daily-driver now. It was perfectly set up out of the box and the overall quality is amazing at the price point. There is one minor cosmetic detail that surprised me, but it is certainly fixable: The tremolo cover is just shoddy.
Most of you are now thinking "so what" which is probably right, but the cover that came on mine is made out of this white Tupperware-like material with crooked, jagged string-access holes in it. I've got it off right now, and I noted that its dimensions are larger than a normal strat trem cover, so a direct (cheap) replacement with one of those is right out.
Does anyone know of a supplier for a tortoiseshell (or even black) tremolo cover that is a direct replacement? I'm not looking to have one custom made - I can do that myself but I'm lazy.

You should contact Chandler/Pickguard Heaven. If they don't already have a listing for that guitar they do have a way you can submit a tracing/template.
