Sterling Case Problem

I now own 3 Sterlings & 2 of the cases seem to be faulty. Apparently the top(lid) portion has the neck cavity too open allowing the bass to slide out of position when upright(in the carry position). My older Sterling had the problem but I figured maybe it was a little worn out because it was older BUT the brand new Sterling I bought today has the same problem with the case. I had to put a piece of foam in the neck pocket of the lid to stop the shifting.
Anyone else have this problem?

Maybe it's a Stingray case that was mistakenly used. Did you buy them all new?

It's a Sterling case....a Stingray wouldn't fit in it.
Actually the 2 I'm having problems with were bought new. The one I bought used from MingusBass is fine....go figure,

All of my Molded Plastic Sterling casses did that but the nice tolex ones (that are no longer offered ) seemed not to have that problem.

I bought a EBMM case (SKB) for my guitar at my Local GC and the thing fell apart with in a week. I had to take it back because the Foam on the inside was falling apart... The exchanged case seems to be doing a whole lot better. Hmmm.... maybe a bad batch?

ive had zero problems with my sterlin, sr4 and jp6 case ....

i guess stuff happens tho

Ok.....and if I want to bring 2 Sterlings to a gig I should just bring it without a case? I really don't think so.

Ok........I solved the problem........what a nightmare.
Went back to Guitar Center & explained the problem. Dude brought out another MM case which was tagged as a Sterling. This case had pads located in the lid around where the 1st to 3rd frets would be and 2 pads to hold down the body. Closed it up....no shifting good right? WRONG. Got all the way home, opened the case & realized it was a Stingray case....DOH! Went back to GC, dude brought out another Sterling case.....same thing.....Stingray case. Sooooo dude calls EB(I think he talked to Scott) & explained the situation in hopes of ordering another Sterling case in. In the meantime I get the bright idea to have him check all of the cases in stock since the other 2 were mislabeled. Sure enough about 5 minutes later, he came out with the correct case & it had the extra cushions installed to stop the shifting. Apparently the case they gave me when I bought the bass was either old or defective because my bass was made in March of this year & the bass I got from Mingus is a 2004 & has the pads to hold it in the case properly. My 2000 Sterling case doesn't so I had to install a piece of foam.
ANYHOW.....if anybody buys a newer MM like in a store, check to see if it has those pads in it.

i'm never surprised to see what the folks at Burger King... I mean Guitar Center do!
I'm seriously boycotting GC. I'm shopping only Mom and Pop stores. Slightly higher prices; however, having the ability to talk to people who know their gear is worth it to me.
