Ok, I did some forum searching, and came up short, so I'll just ask.

I know I want to buy a sterling asap. The problem is I don't know what kind I want. I play in a few bands, a jazz band, a sting orchestra, a big band, and a small rock group. Therefore I want the bass with he most versital sound possible. Do I go with the HH or the HS? OR... do I go with the H and then get the piezo? What can all of these options offer me? and which is most versital? And will the piezo give good tone a like an upright bass or what?

I've played the sterling h and love it, and I've played stingray H and HH. I was less impressed with the stingray HH as I thought I'd be. It was complicated to control and I thought it could have been a little more versital. Is the sterling the same. I always prefered the sterling to the Ray

I want to get it soon so I am shying away from special ordering it. I think I will buy from a local store or GC, or used online.

Thanks,

Mike

I dont think the H with the piezo will be as versatile, but IMO id go with that just because it will sound really awesome.

BUT, if versatility is really really important, i would go with the HH, i think it wil have the most tones.

yeah, I was kinda thinking that, but I really feel like I should play them all first. I know it is tough, but is there any way that someone could describe the difference in tones between the three options.

Thanks,

Mike

I think the dual pup Sterling's are a bit further out than the 'Rays. I haven't stepped into a GC in a while, so I could be wrong. I'm still not sure when the HH Sterling I ordered back in September is gonna ship. If you want something at a GC, I think a Stingray is your only option for the new dual pickup basses (besides the Bongo of course). If I'm wrong, then someone needs to let me know, cause I need to go play an HH Sterling myself to keep myself from going crazy waiting on mine.

I think you are right about only the HH stingrays being in GC. Well actually I have no Idea if you are right, but I was at the one in Phoenix and they only had the stingray HH, just one, and no sterlings besides the H.

yeah, I guess that means not too many people will have tried them. Good thing there are plenty of enlightened people around here who have played them and can give my inexperienced self some insight.

OK, so I just learned that a Sterling HS may be available. Do I go for it? I've said what I'm looking for.

Jack told me "the HH is Godzilla while the HS is sneakier and more refined. So rather than just stomping Tokyo, the HS configuration talks Tokyo into just lying down and doing what the HS wants it to do." Whatever that means... haha. :)

So let me know. Is the Sterling HS the versital machine I've been looking for? Do I wait for the HH? Will superman be able to escape Lex's clutches this time? wait...

Lemme know guys and gals, AND THANKS FOR THE INPUT,

Mike M

I agree with what Jack told you, it makes sense to me. I tihnk in your position the HS would be excellent.

Well, I'm not going to twist your arm or anything, but you do know that this bass is going to be one of very few. There just won't be too many buttercreme Sterling HS basses out there. I don't have exact numbers, but you'd have an EXTREMELY rare piece.

Although really, I don't buy stuff for its collectability.

So that's just an added bonus.

Not that I'm twisting your arm or anything.

Because I'm not like that.

Am I?

Trigger pulled, I emailed you and Steve about the bass. I CAN'T WAIT FOR MY FIRST EBMM!!! so excited.

And by the way, my arm feels fine.
