Greetings, I know there has been a ton of info on the different pick up combinations offered on EBMM products, and I have obtained valuable and most appreciated information from a fellow forumite on the HS and H configurations. I still would like to get insight on the following: Any opinions on the voicing offered on the Parallel wiring on the single H vs the voicing of the Series wiring on the HS would be most apprciated. Chime in if you can?
Thanks.

i beleive the HS Stingray is still in parallel. If im not mistaken the Sterlings (HS and HH) are series and the Stringray 4's (HS and HH) are parallel.

This would mean that an HS SR4 can cop the single H tone

Sorry my question is based on a comparison between a Sterling 4H and a Sterling 4 HS. I thought when I checked the switching diagrams, that the HS only offered Series wiring vs the Parallel wiring for the 4H.
Tks

Doesn't the switch on the H Sterling offer both Serial and Parallel positions. Check out an H Sterling and you'll be able to hear for yourself.

Yes, I have a Sterling 4H, I am looking at possibly getting a Sterling 4HS, but just want some opinions on giving up the P-wiring (4H) for the S-wiring (4HS)?

I think I understand what you are asking, but it's difficult to do a comparison when one of the things you are trying to compare doesn't exist...a parallel HS Sterling.

AH OK ...

My bad.

The single H Sterling has a parallel position on the switch.
NONE of the switch positions on an HS Sterling have a parallel setting.
All settings on an HS Sterling are series
So essentially when you get an HS Sterling you're "giving up" the humbucker in parallel.

With all that said the only thing left to compare is the humbucker in series sound vs the humbucker in parallel sound. To find out this difference you could just play a single H Sterling. The single H Sterling provides both series and parallel switches (positions 1 & 3). The switch twoards the bridge = prrallel & towards the neck = series.

So - If you can get your hands on a single H sterling you'll be able to make the comparission yourself.

BUt, in general the series will sound a big more aggressive.

Thank you, I know your one of the resident Sterling pros here. I do have a Sterling H and I think you just helped to answer my question. I am looking to add the HS model but really can't afford to keep both, thus may have to part with my beloved H. I have only played the HS once and will give another one a go tommorrow. I was just hoping to to get some feedback from those with more experience with both these configurations. Now one more thing, any ideas on how I can tell my gal our trip to Vegas is off because I now will have to have two of these babies?????

id say your decision should hinge on the following:

what position do you play in most of the time. If you're in series 90% of the time like i was/am then selling the H for the HS won't "take away" your favorite tone.

If you're almost always playing in parallel you're going to have to ask yourself:
"Am i willing to trade my current fav tone for positions 3, 4 and 5?" :)

As far as the Vegas trip goes? Edit the Vegas wikipedia entry and put in some text saying that the city has been quarantined by the government due to some crazy outbreak (think 28 Days Later or Resident Evil) & tourism is on hold till Spring of 2009. Add in a few zombie picture's photoshopped in front of the Belagio etc and you're all set.
