I played the Sterling by music man JP50 satin black and loved it! And I was originally looking for a guitar with a double locking tremolo but I might consider buying this. I want to ask if the sterling bridge(piezo bridge?) can pull up as much as a floyd rose(or ibanez edge 3, ZR) and if it will stay in tune as well as a double locking trem. It has locking tuners but I don't know if that is as good as the locking nut. Thank you in advance :D

Short answer it can dive as much but it isn't stable like a double locking system. I find it more stable than a fender or the MM vintage.

seriously If you want to dive bomb and such then you really will be disappointed with anything other than a double locking system.

What do you mean by more stable? As in holding tune? And pull up as much? I have heard I wouldn't be able to do much with this tremolo as a double lock but it stays in tune really well, and if the locking tuners are there you wouldn't need a locking nut

the JP50 trem will allow some pull up, aprox 1 whole step. Its really meant for adding subtle vibrato. The trem will stay in tune well with the locking tuners if your doing some basic vibrato, shimmer type stuff.

a locking nut is the ideal situation for perfect tuning stability.

locking tuners work great, but will not be as rock solid as a lock nut. For most guys, the JP50 bridge combined with the locking tuners works out great and offers very stable tuning.

So I guess I should look for a guitar with double locking trem for flutters and everything? Thank you, and thank you tiki-okc for the help

If your doing extreme dive bombing and other extreme tremolo usage, a locking trem may be a better choice for you.
The locking tuner/trem combo works great but is not the same as having locking saddles and a locking nut.

The JP50 term will flutter if the tension on the bar is set tight.

What I want actually is a trem that can do whatever this guitar does in 0:03 - 0:07 the high pull up, (i dont think that is a flutter though but that is what I have been calling it)

Can this guitar do it?

1.-The bridge on this guitar will go out of tune if you try to do that. No matter how much you set it up.
2.-There's a price to pay for a locking tremolo system, the nut will get in your way when at the first fret in the high strings. Also, keep in mind that even a locking tremolo system may go slightly out of tune (10 cents) when your strings tend to stretch a lot. Make sure to pre stretch and learn how to set up a floating system.
3.-Get ready to relearn how to tune on either this or a locking system.
3.-Check out the ideas on the Charvel GG guitar.
