Great playing my friend.

I had a chance to play the JP50 just yesterday at Guitar Center here in MI. I have to tell you... I LOVE THIS GUITAR!!! I just noticed it hanging next to the Line 6 amps. Plugged it in and it played like butter. The price was about $775.00 which was not bad at all for what you get. Tony

Tony,
First off, thanks very much for your kind words.
You should look around, the Sterling are only $550 when they came out, have you look at Musician Friend? I paid $659 Canadian for my JP50. The AX40 is the same.
please keep us posted, it's a great deal and great guitar

Can you make the trem non-floating?

the trem sits in a recessed cavity, so it won't rest agianst the top of the body like a vintage style trem

you could block the tremelo block in the spring cavity (back side of body) with a small block of wood that is fitted or use something a like a Tremol-no.

I want to get this one and the Sterling AX40 and then one day get the Music Man JP. But for now the JP50 will handle my needs very well. I have an Ibanez Rg220 which I will be trading (or selling) very soon.

Peace.... Tony

Hi Tony.

yes, we experienced 3 typhoons now, which caused a lot of damage in here..
our band HQ/studio was flooded and I mean flooded (you can scuba dive there) due to the Typhoon Ketsana.. :(

and lately, Typhoon Santi (Mirinae) brought really scary winds in Manila..
which also caused the delay in the shipment of my JP50...

all is well now,
its back to normal here in Manila. :D
ill be expecting my JP tomorrow!
yeah!

Hi Pat and Tung;

Thank you. Looks like GC had the retail cost listed on the guitar's sticker instead. Very cool....$549.00 makes it even sweeter!!!

Peace,
Tony

Thats a good question. We have to wait till NAMM or maybe a little before that they may give us some teasers about new colours & models.

I asked and was told that additional colors will be announced for the AX40 at next year's NAMM show. I was told it would be March before the new colors would ship. I don't know about the JP50 as I didn't ask about that one.

They need to really do a hardtail tremolo version of a maple board Axis Super Sport. I'll buy that on release date!

I tried one and I was very impressed. I played it through a Mesa Dual Rectifier and it sounded good. It was in no way cheap looking, feeling, or sounding. The pickups, as stated before, are pretty fizzy, but good. The neck isn't as flat and it's a little thicker, and the action is set noticeably higher than on the EB model. It stayed in tune very well (for the ten minutes that I played it lol), but it didn't have the trem arm in so I couldn't test it out, but I'd assume it has a good trem. The neck felt nice, but again, it was thicker with higher action and a slight coat, which some people may actually prefer, but I like the bare neck of the EB.

So overall, you won't be disappointed but the EB JP is much better IMO. I just prefer the feel and tone over the SBMM. The sound is more articulate and fuller, which is to be expected with better pickups and higher quality parts/electronics. I still liked it a lot, and it's a great guitar for the money. If you replace the stock pups with the JP sigs it would be even better!

Hello,I'm planning to buy JP50.I want to know about the bridge since I never have a guitar with a floating trem.
How long does it take to change the string? Is it like the vintage strat bridge?

Thanks.

Grr, I recently moved to Europe from the US and I was considering buying an SBMM AX40 in Blue or the SBMM JP50 in the new Stealth Black(which looks killer btw). But I was mainly wanting the AX40.
Over here they cost €829. Well at least theres no tax on it but it still a lot more expensive. :(
It would be cheaper getting it shipped in from the US. But at the moment, I am (extremely) content with my JP6 :)

Something negative

I compared a JP50 and a EBMM JP6 one the other day,and I found out that there is a little differences.
when I first saw the SBMM JP50, it left me the impression: It's a bit lean compared to the EBMM JP, after scrutinize them left and right I would tell that the carve on SBMM is not that "in place" or not deep enough, the edge of the body is not that round and full as well to the EBMM JPs.
I talked with Pat(thanks for your reply:D) about this recently and he said it's due to the cost issue which can't be denied both SBMM and the consumers, we pay much less after all, aren't we? , but I still hope SBMM's more effort on the body shapping(the neck is wonderful!:) except for the fretwire's material and polish, cost issue again:p),or it's rather a died OLP.
