The nanomags would be a great way to put piezo in them, but again costs would go up. I believe that for the price the sbmm guitars are higher quality than epiphone guitars, and therefore be even harder to implement in the sbmm line. Other brands have done the chameleon /mystic dream type finish, although for slightly higher prices. I guess only Pat knows....

Well yeah, the NanoMag would be a way out, and I reckon prices will go up, but I don't think they'll do as much as if a piezo was installed. Anyway, I haven't heard how the NanoMag sounds, but if it doesn't sound good I doubt they'll consider it, as they want to deliver a high quality product at a reasonable price, and putting a bad-sounding piezo in it would go against that idea. But well, we never know, right? ... and about the shield inlays, if their cost is high they won't introduce them, also remember that they are an option in the Standard JP6, if the difference in price was not noticeable they would've made it a standard option.

yea you're probably right
Back to the quilt/flame, let's remember that these are cheap, the ax40 has a quilt itself... so let's hope.

Well yeah, you're right also, I thought the Quilted/Flame paintjob was not cheap at all but considering what you've said about the AX40... it makes sense that a good paintjob can be achieved at a low cost, lets keep wishing!

They use veneers for those tops. Not much for tone, but good for looks IMO.
