Think you can still get an HS 4 string. But will have to find some NoS or used for a 5 HS.

I love my Sterling. I would say that it is a different playing experience as compared to the Stingray. You can get SR tone from it but I kind that the pickup switch gives you a little more variety in the timbre of the instrument. I have gigged mine with my classic rick band. Had it set to front coil. Nice warm tone, a little like a J bass favoring the front pickup.

The neck is really sleek an comfortable as is the smaller body. After logging lots of hours on an SR4 or SR5, the Sterling tends to feel a little like a toy which is great if you wanna get a little heavy handed with your bass runs, etc!

But overall I would say it is a different enough playing experience that if you are drawn to it, go for it as it will not be a duplicate to your Ray.

Good luck.

I've been playing around with a Stingray 5 HS that belongs to a buddy of mine for a couple weeks and decided to dive in and invest in this bass game.

Found a used Black-Cherryburst Sterling 5 HS locally and couldn't pass it up for my first EBMM.

Based on previous posts in this thread it sounds like it previously belonged to @73jbass

Congrats on your first EBMM!

If you are like most of us, it won't be your last

I've been "raised" on MusicMan!

While this is my first bass (personally), I've had the privilege of watching two of my best friends move gear around for the past decade and a half... and they ALWAYS "come home" to EBMM.

MM basses have always been my favorite of theirs when they get 'em in their hands so I figured since I'm gonna give this bass playin' thing a whirl why not get a tool that I KNOW can uphold its end of the bargain?

Needless to say I'm a fan, nearing the "fanboy" level haha! And there's no doubt there will be more EBMM equipment in my future! (The Game Changer is calling me... I love to fiddle around with stuff like that) Right now the HS-5 config gives me enough switches and adjustments to keep me on my toes and allows me to explore various directions I may want to go with my style/tone/etc.

Lovin it, man!
