Sterling necks??

Someone recently tried a Sterling and posted that it had an asymmetrical neck profile. I posted back that I've had a bunch and never felt it.

Tonight I pulled out my HH Sterling and really checked it over. It looks like the back of the neck may be asymmetrical like he said!

So has anyone else noticed this? I looked at the EB site but the instrument info doesn't list anything about back contour unfortunately.

Asymmetrical how? Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place...

The back curve of the neck where your thumb sits isn't a smooth curve, it has a bit of a "hump" in it, under the E string.

I've checked my 4 Sterling necks and they all seem to have it but not my Stingrays. It's very subtle and I can't feel it at all while I'm playing.

I absolutely love the Sterling neck, I was just surprised when I checked one over after reading that post.

huh.... never noticed it before, but now that you mention it I think see what you mean. It is quite subtle... I love the feel of these necks too.

btw, did your *new* black/maple get in yet?

I played my first Sterling (Stirling for the Lads) Sat. night, and I thought the string spacing was off. The neck is different from a normal J. The string spacing is off, but in a good way. Seems a little tighter. As far as the assy, I think it is a normal cut. I could very well be wrong, but it seems not to have the thumb contour as other basses do (5er's). My bass seems to be the same north and south. Or east and west.

One of the guitar guys once mentioned that the Sterling was the guitarists bass.
