Made in 2001, I'm the original owner and she's served me well for several years. I've had that crackle sound of a bad jack every so often for over a year, but only if I really mess around with the plug so I figured "eh, when it dies I'll worry about it."
So lately it's been getting worse, so I removed the input jack the other night to see if a solder was working itself loose. Nope, things look okay. Put everything back together, now there's no sound at all. Removed the input jack once again to try that Metal Bendy Trick (that's the official name I'm sure), but nothing seemed really loose.
Here's the weird part: when the jack is outside the control cavity, it seems to work fine. It's only when I put it back in does the sound cut off abruptly, only to come back when I remove the jack from the cavity once again, and occasionally it will come back for seemingly no reason whatsoever when everything is put back together. Like just now, she was dead for about 10 minutes. Plugged it in and left it sitting as I typed this up, heard a crackle, now it's working again.
Is it possible that a cable is getting pinched or shorted out? Time for a new input jack? Should I just swear at it when it dies until it comes mysteriously back to life like I've been doing for a week now?
Cheers for any help.
