Hey, gang! Trying to do as much research as I can here. I noticed that the electronics for the sterling are in a different place than in the SR4. Does this make the pickgaurd change complicated for the ol' Sterling?
In other words....are there wires, etc, attached to the underbelly of the pickgaurd for Sterlings?

Nope, just screw the old one off and the new one on.

Only the SR5 gets a bit tricky, but it's still only the knobs/switch that are attached.

Sweetness. I would be interested in the sr5, except I HATE that ugly pickguard SO MUCH. It looks so much unlike a MM it's not even funny. It looks like some ugly guitar...not even like a bass. Aesthetics are quite important when spending this kind of money. :)

Ah! This throws a whole wrench into my plans! Are you trying to say a SR5er can be modified to a more classic SR look at an affordable cost?

Depending on what you want and what Boots has materialwise he can do it cheaper than most of the places out there... and the turn around is pretty fast too!!!

Ok! Here's another small question. Does the Sterling use the same pickguard as the Stingray?

Finally...why can't Ernie Ball come up with some cooler names. Sterling sounds wimpy. Stingray sounds cool. Bongo sounds flacid and lame. Come on....

I won't touch the name question (I'll let everyone else out there have at you). If I'm not mistaken the SR and Sterlings are different pgs

lol I have nothing against the man's name (Sterling), but it sounds like the company is trying to say it's pristine and fragile. Bongo is a hand drum.

Thanks for the info, bro.

Because some exotic custom bass guitar luthier in Germany already took that name. :p

Right, which is a fine name for a person, as I said. But does it make the bass sound tough? Come on! Sterling Silver! What ever happened to names like Sabre and Cutlass? They were swords.

I don't think I'm the only one around here that thinks the SR5 looks pretty damn good. It wouldn't be very interesting if it looked just like the SR4 or sterling.

Why is it though...that the stingray 5 string looks nothing like the stingray 4 string?

You're pushing the envelope, Mr. Digory. These are company secrets that only EB staff are allowed to know! ;)

OK OK! Maybe one day the 5 string will actually look nice to me, or I'll get one modified so it looks more like the stingray it gets it's name from.

Until then, I will just accept the fact that they made it look different for some reason only God and Sterling Ball know about.
