To me, it comes down to this - you either want parts out there, real parts, or you do not.

If you do, then you end up with the Fender example. Frankenfenders galore.

If you don't, then you retain more control over what's out there. It may just be that simple (or maybe not - it certainly isn't my area of expertise, should such a thing exist).

But the bottom line is that anyone who wants to go aftermarket will have to do just that, and I'm not going to sit here and tell you that you (or anyone else) shouldn't. Once you buy it, it's yours and if I felt like a possum-hair finish would suit me, then I'd do it and I wouldn't give one happy FFAARD* what anyone said.

Music Man is privately owned and they do what they want and what they feel is best for the company and, somewhat secondly, the loyal customers. The decisions that have been made so far have worked. Me, I'm a retired Navy swab. I don't know doodly-squat about running the best musical instrument business on earth, so I try to not give the boss advice about such things.

Which works for me so far.

OK, OK... Guys, it's allright! I'm the last guy to want to turn a brand spanking new beautifully made and sounding Sterling into a FrankenMan. On the contrary, being very good with my hands, I can do this mod myself WITH all original parts. But I understand the man behind the whole thing wanting to keep everything simple, stupid, and original. Good attitude with less problems.

This monkey isn't old enough to not be able to get a new face. I'll get used to the idea of resting my thumb on the neck and to employ and even more efficient moveable thumb anchor.

Here's a liitle message for EB moderators, from this newbies, I did not know that you could get a dual pickup configuration on a Sterling as it is not mentioned, or i'm stupid and blind, on their website Sterling instruments page. Neither was I a member of this forum prior to my purchase.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I bought this piece of art because I loved it. After 2 Peavey's that went back to the shop under warranty for manufactural defects, I flipped another $700 and upgraded to this Sterling. Absolutely no looking back, just bad habits.

BTW, thank you all for your help in answering my Question.

2rad,

People can sometimes get a little spiked up about this because it's come up so many times before, this whole "should MM sell parts in the aftermarket" business, and it's been answered a time or two by Big Poppa, who also seems to own and run the Ernie Ball Music Man shebang.

The dual pickup basses have not been available for very long now and we're all still getting used to 'em, so don't feel bad. No, they're not on the instrument page, but you can get a lot of info here if you feel the need to investigate. BTW, I'm not a company employee, just an enthusiast like the other guys. (Perhaps somewhat sicker, but you see what I mean.)

So you're not stupid nor blind, at least as far as I can tell, and there's no law against being a newbie around here. Pull up a chair, grab yourself a cigar, let me know if you have any questions.

Oh, and the search function is really, really handy!

Like he said, I too noticed dual pickup options is not mentioned on the EB site. There are many people who simply don't partake in forums, and they don'y know. It's not advertised in Bass player magazines either, all I ever see is that Avenged Sevenfold guy with a regular Sterling.
