Hi guys,

I'm John from Palermo ( Sicily) .

A few days ago I've bought my first musicman, after one year of searching and trying and 3 years of dreaming it...

At least I've chosen for a '99 musicman sterling 4 ....and I'm very happy.

Now, I'd have your opinion about pickup...I was about to buy this one

which is SEYMOUR DUNCAN
3-COIL PICKUP
FOR STERLING®

couse I want to have the best soubd from my bass...but I'm wondering if it's worth changing it...

Please let me know what you think....if you have tried it....:D

Thanks alot .

John

IMHO there is not a thing wrong with the Sterling pickup and I would never dream of changing. What is it you that do not like about the pickup or are trying to get from it that you can't ? :)

everything's ok....but...I don't known ...I thought seymour dunchan could give something more...so that if I start from 10 I could have 10++ :p

I don't know what's the difference in terms of sound 'quality' between the standard pickup and the dunchan one....
I'ts not a matter of ' I don't like this or can't get...' , just wondering if I can have 10++ :p

Thanks alot :)

If you find yourself thinking, "Boy, I wish this bass could have a little less soul and balls and overall great tone", that's when you change the pickup.

I think several of us here, myself included have tried other pickups (bartolini, seymour duncan) only to find that you can't beat the original, I mean I think after all these years EBMM has probably done a little research and development on these pickups, and I think if there was something better sounding out there that they would be using it.

The original pickups are great,but some folks like the tone of alnico over ceramic. I had a Sterling with an alnico pickup and it sounded amazing. Not that it was better than the original,just different,more old school. Just depends on what tone you're after. I'm sure you get what you want with the factory pickup,it's just going to take some amp tweaking to find it. I'd leave it alone for now.

Have you thought about getting another MM bass? Keep the Sterling and when you want a different sound pull out a Bongo or Stingray?

theres no reason to change an MM's pickups. theyre awesome from the factory.

i think most people are used to other production line basses where the first thing you do is replace the bridge, pickups and tuners ;) MMs not like that. its all awesome right out of the box

Thanks guys...I think i won't change it... :p

...and yes...I'd love to buy another MM ( and a fender...) ...unfortunately here in Sicily I'd never find a Bongo or an HH stingray or sterling....( it was a miracle to find this sterling...I think I'm the only one to have it in Sicily...) ....and now however I haven't got money...

Thanks alot guys
