Spoke to Dan and got an RA today - Gonna let the experts have a look at it.

Please take good care of her, Jon... And don't worry - no foam peanuts! ;)

You had a high fret. I leveled and recrowned the frets, and am about to put it all back together. How low/high do you like the action to be?

Wow - Service that exceeds ALL expectation! This is so great! :D

{*so* excited by the personal attention}

I was going for very low - as if that means anything!

Seriously, though - as low as you can get without any buzz would be great... I can always back-it off a bit if necessary once I get it home.

Glad to find that it "wasn't just me" - thanks for providing the sanity check in addition to the attention and the effort- greatly appreciated!!!

BTW - I am now officially an EBMM player for life...

Since I didn't hear from you, I took it upon mice elf to decide. I set it up at about 2/32 at the 12th fret...It's the factory spec for 6 string guitars. It will go lower if you feel the need to adjust....You have been officially pimped. Enjoy! :D

...When you adjust for straightness of the neck, the best way is to depress the 1st fret with a finger of the left hand. At same time, use the thumb of your right hand to depress at the 12th in such a way that the middle finger of your right hand is pointing in the direction of the nut. With both frets now depressed, use that middle finger to depress the E string at the 5th or 6th. As the neck gets straighter and the gap gets smaller between the fret and string, tap the middle finger over the 5th or 6th. You'll actually hear if there's still a gap (a little pinking noise). Once the neck is straight, you wont hear any noise when when taping...

when you 'tap' the strings when depressing at 1st and 12th fret, should the string be moving? when i do it, it doesn't move at all, well very little - should it be ringing at least a little bit? does this mean the truss rod should be loosened more?

If there is no movement at the 5th fret, then a bit more relief should be added unless you are not getting any fret buzz. The neck should be as level as you can get it without fret buzz.

so the string should move a little? - you see, i'm not quite sure what you guys mean by 'movement'...

by the way, you add more relief by loosening right?

Ok...What you want to have is the straightest neck you can have without buzzing. Is your bass buzzing now?

the e-string starts buzzing from about 5th fret+ (higher) - thats with a fairly heavy touch, much harder than i usually play...

the other strings buzz a little, g-string doesn't at all

Ok..turn the truss rod wheel toward you..just a little bit..then play, and adjust as needed

after turning the truss rod a little, it now rings (it didn't before) if i depress at the 1st and 12th fret and tap the E-string at 5th fret - is that good?

buzz is still there on the low E, but only if i pluck really hard...
