I asked this question before about the ax30d but I can't seem to find an answer about the Silo series. Is there a way to tell the difference between the Silo30 and the Silo 30d (with Dimarzio's) just by looking at the guitar? I found a good price ($200 shipped) on what the guy says in the 30d with Dimarzios but I want to make sure before pulling the trigger.

Thanks in advance.

Nope. On that one you will have to pull the pickguard and see the pickups.

I will tell you, if it is any color other than Black, it never came from the factory with DiMarzios.

Didn't the original Silo30 (non-dimarzio's) have locking tuners whereas the Silo30D did not have locking tuners? Not to say the pickups couldn't be switched but I thought that would be one way of at least knowing what it should have for pickups.

Allen - I'm fairly certain that's the case as I owned an original Silo30 with locking tuners. When the then new Silo30D came out I was disappointed to find it didn't come with locking tuners any longer. I never could figure out why that was.

Thanks Ed. Not sure why they would do that either. I explained to the guy that they aren't Dimarzios and he agreed to take another $50 off so I'm pulling the trigger. I'll probably switch out the pickups eventually but a Silo 30 for $150 is a pretty good deal I think.

Heck yeah Allen go for it. That is one really nice guitar even for the $300 I paid for mine brand new. That thing was really comfortable. A very nice budget-minded pickup line you may want to check out are GFS pickups. Google it.

Thanks Ed, I'll check them out. I'm thinking about removing the middle single coil altogether and maybe just replacing the bridge pup. I get annoyed with a single coil in the middle because I always hit it while picking. Not sure if anyone else ever has that problem...

I've scratches all over my middle p'up cover. It's a small inconvenience to maintain the "Strat Quack" in positions 2 and 4. I could pop a higher output pickup in there and simply lower it to compensate, but that costs more money than a new pickup cover.
