steve lukather pickups with sustainer

Hey Guys,
please do an favor to everyone else in here (as well as to yourselves) and use the search function or browse through the existing threads before opening a new one. This topic has been discussed more than once, e.g. here.

Long story short:
He uses a Fernandes sustainer in the neck position on some of his Luke Signatures.
Steve Vai drove him to that and he did not modify his guitars himself, but the guys at ebmm did it for him. Read the entire website and get the facts :)

Excuse me for being a bit harsh, but I think it's boring to read the same questions over and over again.

Yes I started that last thread but it doesnt answer the question I have now. I want to know other than the neck sustainer what were the other two pickups.

Yes the other 2 pickups are EMG, the sustainer, no one knows, what it is, even Luke doesn't know which model it is.

I think he switches between then like you would piezo and magnetic pickups. But Jon would probably know more about that, but thats the way l would wire it up.

Scott.

Thanks I have a SX strat copy and ordered a sustainer system today. I have an 81 in the bridge of this guitar and just sold the SA out of it becuase I was going to get S's. I figured what the hey lets try the sustainer out. I wouldnt butcher up my new LUKE though especially since it already has the piezos.

Sounds like a good idea, I think a Luke with piezo only has one, battery, so you would have to put another battery in it, then another selector switch.

Steves tech puts the other p/ups in his guitars. When I build them they just have the EMGs, and I am pretty sure he does not have that setup on all his axes.

Sorry Jon, l thought Luke might of got you to put the sustainer pick ups in, l have seen Luke with some guitars with the sustainer, and some which the EMG's.

Fernandes does the installs for Luke. There's a specific set of instructions you
need for it to work with EMGs...some resistors are different.

I had mine done by Luke's tech, based on his #1 guitar. It's awesome, Sustainers are alot of fun.

I was thinking of getting one put on one of my Lukes, but it would be a novalty item for a while, and l'll be scared to use it too much like a certain guitarist who just toured last year with the initials EVH. hehe

You have a point there :p

Think of Luke, Vai & Schon instead :)

Yeah true, the way luke uses it, it sounds very tasty, and l've been very impressed with Schon lately, he kind of was all over the place (playing wish) in the 80's, but l've been really digging Soul Sirkus cd, mmmmm tasty. hehe.
