Would R&D not usually value market preferences?

Some companies do, but listening to the crowd doesn't necessarily make a great product that a large amount of people will buy.
Sure everyone would want a guitar from EBMM custom made just for them, with a different nut width or neck profile, or arm contour in just the right sparkly finish. Unlimited choices don't equal cost effective guitars or more sales.
BP runs a tight ship. If he felt it was feasible, and economically sound to release more options, i'm sure he would.
